I saw Che this moday. The film was presented by Santiago Cabrera who plays Camilo Cienfuegos in the movie. It was an outdoor projection, obviously at night, from a 35mm copy. There were like 500 spectators. I knew the movie was shot with the Red One so I paid special attention to the image quality : The sharpness was great. Fantastic. The whites clipped most the time and this was annoying. For most of the jungle scenes there was no or very little sky to watch, just a huge white area. Same thing for the NY & UN part. I also felt that the color range was a little bit limited but this may have something to do with Soderbergh taste for color correction (ala Traffic). I think the 35mm print was very clean. Didn´t miss the "film grain" at all. The pannings were very smooth also. Overall the image was good. The sharpness was really impressive and I think it is its biggest quality.

Here in Paris France, we are quite a few redusers
who saw CHE, and surprised by the lack of sharpness so obvious that most of us immediatly seen there were a problem.

The up and down parts of the Screen (i mean 2/3 of the frame) were amazingly soft.

In several parisian theaters, it was the same...

Pretty annoying for the "not convinced" french user...

Does someone know who made the french copies for CHE ?

The first part "L'argentin" is a bit soft because Soderbergh shot anamorphic. I saw both parts head to head in Cannes but it was a very good 4K digital projection. You could tell there was a difference in sharpness between the two but it wasn't as striking as you seem to be describing it.
