I think they already do. But only for Avid DS with the new DNxHD 440 codec.

Yes that's what I hear too but can't find any info on avid ds website....

Currently the DNxHD codec is only 4:2:2. DS does work in 4:4;4 though for other formats.

So the increase in bitrate is for higher framerates? 1080/50p and 1080/60p?

Why not supporting 4:4:4 with DNxHD as long as Sony SR and R3D use them? In term of color grading, the possibility are more limited. And Sony SR is quite the standard in HD now...And in term of saving storage, DNxHD is good and lossless. 4:4:4 10 bit in DNxHD should be good Michael, no?

I am not arguing the fact that it would be good to have a compressed 4:4:4 codec, it's just that DNxHD does not currently support it. Creating one is something that product management and engineering need to consider in the long list of everything else that needs to be done as well.. ;)
