Hey guys, I remember when the news for the New Scarlet/Epic came out, they mentioned mounts for certain brains, now I can't find it, and after my current adoption to medium format, I am greatly interested what mounts wil be supported on the bodies? I am probably going to guess and assume this may have been posted before, but I can't find the thread. Forgive me.

Red Mount (proprietary Red 645 primes TBA)
Medium Format Mount (This is unspecified, hopefully Hasselblad)
Mamiya mount (645 I'm assuming)

Shouldn't be too hard to get them machined if Red doesn't bring them out either. I'm sure if Red doesn't make a Hasselblad someone else will be profitting and producing one to fit.

I think they removed the mount details because people were bemoaning the fact that some of the brains weren't listed as PL mount. But Evin looks spot on as far as I can recall.

Evin, any truth to the rumor that the newest series of nikon primes cover a larger image circle than 135? I have the newest 50 f1.4 in my hand the other day and the image circle did look pretty beefy...didnt get a chance to measure it though.

Just start raiding the ebay and second hand shops for Hasselblad or other medium format good lenses. I can see that in the next year or so their price will go up exponentially, or become as rare as hen's teeth. Look what happened to older cine lenses.

No way man. Hasselblad was the staple of pro photographers for 30 years, and now a days the lenses are worth 1/3 what they once were. There isnt the scarcity of cine lenses, and they are obsolete, so other parts of the industry arent looking for them either. Also the number of people buying the Epic 645 isnt going to be anywhere near the number of people who jumped on R1.

What I was thinking was a Pentacon 6 mount, those lenses are amazingly cheap, but they are brilliant optical machines, including the Carl Zeiss Jena collection and the Arsat collection, Thats what I was thinking as a cheap alternative to acquiring lenses that have a superb quality!

Saw A Carl Zeiss Lens 80mm f/2.8, on Ebay, for 85 Bucks with 40 dollars shipping. HOW can you beat that?

Also, you think Red would be able to fit a medium format lens on a Scarlet, I understand a mount is doable(or not), but would that crop the actual focal length of the lens since the sensor size is smaller then the Epic??

MOST still medium format lenses are going to be very poor choices for cinema.
I have Bronica, Mamiya 6x7, Mamiya 645, and Hasselblad systems (Zeiss lenses). ALL these still lenses I've used breathe very badly - worse than 35mm FF lenses. There's no way a serious DP is going to accept that except for the most basic low budget projects and tests, and why would they use an Epic 645 for really low budget stuff when the system itself will be well over $50K.
I seriously doubt the Epic 645 will make any difference in the cost of used medium format still lenses.

I've used most medium format lenses over the years, and I have a large set of Hasselblad CF and CFE lenses. Yes some do breathe very heavily, but on others the breathing is no more than you find on many well respected cine lenses.
The older C lenses, aren't worth buying, but the CF's are pretty good.
A lot of the CFE lenses were I understand re computed, when they added the electrical contacts, and they seem to breath less. The 80 and the 50 are good, the 120 Macro Planar isn't.
As to whether serious DP's would accept them,of course they do.Hasselblad lenses are often used on Imax cameras, and were used for the Imax sequences on 'The Dark Knight'.I don't think anyone would suggest that Wally Pfister wasn't a serious DP.
I agree that sales of the 645 Epic are not going to be anything like as large as the FF35 version,so I don't think it will have too much impact on the price of medium format glass.
Just my two pence worth.
Tom.

I would collect the three or so major lenses from the hasselblad Xpan system. Small, sharp, good range, and they'll cover the 645 epic since you'd most likely be shooting it 16:9 or 2.35:1

There is a 30, a 45, and a 90 I believe. If you can find something longer to round it out thats a very nice set for 645

Wait, I forgot about THIS:

http://www.s.leica-camera.com/leica-s-system

35mm f2.5
70mm f2.5
120mm f2.5
180mm f3.5

...that cover 30mm x 45mm

It aint 56mm across, but its Leica. Someone call them and tell them to leave the stupid aperture collar on.
