Mine shipped Friday and should arrive in L.A. by Monday or Tuesday. It says Tuesday but I don't see how the two-day shipping option that was selected and confirmed (on the shipment confirmation) would make it Tuesday. We'll see. Either is fine. I'm just anxious and excited to play around with it!

Why wouldn't you get Final Cut Studio 2 now if that's what you're interested in using? I want to play around more and familiarize myself with what I have to know. I've been using Final Cut HD (4.5) for a while now, so my version is well out of date even though I just bought it 2 years and 2 months ago. Just before Studio 1, I guess. DOH!

I'm sure there are all kinds of opinions on this, and I don't want to sound too opinionated about the matter, but I think Avid is a terrible editing system that is way too complicated to use for simple tasks and frankly its function is lacking. The way it looks is unacceptable, too. It's not the early 90s anymore, come on, style does matter. If I'm going to sit in an editing program for 8 hours or more I better be looking at something nice and using something that makes sense to my mind.

Avid is like film to me -- was great in the past, lots of amazing projects done with it, but has no future. In my life, anyway, has no future. In fact all of our editing teachers have said they use Final Cut at home, even though they are forced to teach us Avid in school, which is why I didn't minor in editing. When even your teachers refuse to use Avid at home, that's sad. One of them said, "I hate Final Cut." I said, "Why? You just said you use it at home." He said, "Yeah, well, I do. But it's TOO easy. NOTHING is hard with it. It makes being an editor too easy and that makes work harder to find." I thought that was pretty hilarious.

knowing software doesn't necessarily make you an editor though. at least not a good one...

Editing skills have (nearly) nothing to do with software skills. Take a film editor, show him how to use FCP in 30 minutes, my guess, he will cut your movie as he was working on film.
Take a stop motion artist and make him animate with 3D package after 30 mintues training, my guess is that he won't be able to get same quality of work, because 3D package are complex software, NLE are not.

Also do not forget that REDCODE RAW can already be edited natively in any NLE that support Quick Time codec, FCP 6.1 will only have RT effects support for REDCODE RAW. So if your most complex effects in NLE is fade, your are good with any of them.

But I am not arguing the fact that FCP studio 2 is a great product. Shame it only runs on OSX...

There is something to be said for getting the apps to play around and get familiar with before you hit crunch time in a production setting. Color itself and the 3D stuff in Motion are all new things to learn and grasp to enable them to become true "tools" when you need them.

Installing now, I will let you know how it goes. Not too sure how friendly it will be with my Dual G5 set up but I am pretty sure its up to par. Also interested to see how my Mac book pro 15 inch will handle Studio 2.

...Not so sure that's a Motion bug. The ATI drivers included with OSX 10.4.8/9 have a few bugs on the X1900 and a couple other cards. Looks like there's a few users of Modo and Maya complaining lately.

Maya seems to run fine.. well here anyway.. no mayjor complaints yet.

Anyways.. replicated it on a 17" macbookpro and my laptop in store :( hmm..

Since the 10.4.8 update, I've had some Modo glitches on my macbook pro. I don't use Maya on the Mac, so I can't comment there, but I've seen some people reporting bugs on a few forums and I know there's some issues with the latest drivers.

I haven't had a chance to play with Motion3 and the new 3D functions. I'll have to try it on the Macbook pro later today to see if I have issues. But I haven't even got around to running it on my G5 quad yet. I've installed it all, fired up Color and played with that some. Checked out the updates to FCP and that's about it.

Ditto. Still some minor ones happening...new Modo coming out soon...

How do you like Color? I played with it recently during FCS2 event here and it's pretty much logical. Like it. A lot.

I just love Motion 3. The library wasn't installed, so I couldn't check all the features, like particles in 3d :angry03:, but it's fantastic. A lot of my wishes came true.
Now if Wacom had Z-axis...

Same really.. busy so just hunting around playing every now and again.

Bit miffed about the 3d errors, coming from flame this was a big deal.. so hope it gets fixed.

On the plus side got grade1 hd crt, hooked it up to sdi out of the macpro.. quick edit in fc6>colour> :-)))))) nice!.. hurled color fx on .. loads.. just played fine. 720p the same.. need to dig out some 1080 material but to be honest happy doing that at 1/2 proxy if it plays RT.

I like the layout.. some don't though.. Just wish "fulscreen" mode was there.. hate seeing the menu bar.. it just so last year! lol..
