James is spending a lot of cake. $100K.
I've calculated to get everything (including post) from scratch it will be around $98K. A set of semi-modern primes would add another $50 K. How many are starting from zero, though, with no gear ?
It's going to be a big investment, regardless; from an individual doing RED guerilla style to a studio set up. There's a lot of hard work too afford RED. From RED teams posts it seems they're well aware of it.
One good thing about intitial start up costs ? Once you've got the gear and workflow down, adding a second camera isn't as cost prohibitive. gotta spend cake to make cake ...

I don't think all of us are looking to go 4k from day 1. Its a process in my case to start out with the cam. Looking to go 1080P at the outset, then work a year or so to attempt the transition to 2K and then as and when the time allows, not to mention the cashflow, look at making the move to 4K.
