Just a few words to say how good these two apps work together.
Export XML from FCP , import it in Clip Finder, et voilą!
In Clip Finder, just clic on the clips and it opens each clips INSTANTLY in RED Alert. Do your CC, and go to the next clip.
You want to save time and render while you're still working on other clips ?, no problem, send the first clip batch to render bath engine and continue !!!
Then, send XML back to FCP.
It's so simple, so brilliantly thought, brilliantly crafted.
It has many usefull powerfull and comprehensive automation possiblities.
Try it !!!!! It's a simple and FAST workflow that WORKS.
You'll save so much time :)
Congrats to Hans and Graeme.
Now i'll have some suggestions... :)

Clipfinder is nice to play shoots to clients on the spot... also you can open the clip on a single click in RedAlert!
Amazing product, thats for sure...

I'll send a donation to Hans right now,
This application is so brilliantly crafted.
Made for real people who can't afford stratosphere price post/DI solutions.
... a couple on tons on hard work hours in there...

When I playback R3D files in clip finder, all I see black?
Play head moved forward, I'm just not seeing anything. Anyone have this issue/ a fix?

If that's the same in RA, try to switch RA to "Default" and make new QuickTime proxies. It has happened to me with build 17.

My thumbnails in Clipfinder are not updating after the shot has been graded in REDAlert. I am doing the ALT-CMD-A with REDAlert selected but nothing is happening. Anybody know why?

did you grade in red alert with the curves, or the sliders?
the reason i ask is the curves color info. does not transfer back to the newly generated QT Proxies yet.

I have used Clipfinder a lot for rendering full clips to HD. However, is this truly a conform solution using XML? I just did a quick test, taking a single long clip and doing some quick edits in FCP. When I bring that XML doc into Clipfinder, it sees only the whole, long clip and not the edits. Is there a way for it to show each clip separately so I don't have to render out the entire file?

Unfortunately I'm still running tiger and can't run clip finder just yet. As bad as I want to I'm waiting for the new mac pros. I will definitely donate once I get it up running.

It's been a few days since I posted the Clipfindfer/RedAlert updating problem. When I hit ALT_CMD-A shouldn't I be seeing the updated grade in the clipfinder thumbnail of that file?
Now what's happening is - nothing.
And if the clip already had a grade and I went and tweaked it... doesn't that automatically update the RSX file when I close REDAlert and therefore the thumbnails too?

Sam,
You are right, thumbnails should update when you hit ALT-CMD-A.
Can you try the following
- load some clips into Clipfinder
- switch to thumbnail view (CMD-T)
- open a clip in REDAlert (CMD-R)
- move "kelvin" slider all the way to the right
- press ALT-CMD-A (while in REDAlert)
- the thumbnail image of the clip should change
If this does not work, please let me know.
Clipfinder 2.1 does not update thumbnails when the RSX file changes because all imaging in Clipfinder 2.1 is based on the proxy files (which do not change automatically when the RSX file changes).
Clipfinder 2.2 will use the RED SDK for imaging and will react immediately to any look setting changes.
Cheers,
Hans

Hi Hans..I followed the steps but the thumbnail did not change.
The grade is there. If I close REDAlert and then reopen it and import the file I can see the grade, same thing if I open the file using the finder...the grade is there.
If I click on the.mov files in the file folder of the graded R3D they are NOT showing the grade from REDAlert.
Just to clairify something else: the proxies are used just for reference in Clipfinder right?
After I do my grade and open the render window, it is the R3D file I graded that gets transcoded (and scaled) is this correct?

Hi Sam,
If the grade is there in REDAlert but not in the .mov files (the proxies) inside the .RDC folder, then REDAlert did not update the proxies.
Try using the "Make Quicktimes" menu command in the File menu.
As long as REDAlert does not update the proxies, Clipfinder cannot change its display.
And yes, then render process decodes, grades and scales from the original R3D file.
Cheers,
Hans

It's very strange I can't select any of those REDAlert Quicktime options in the file menu. So this is some kind of REDAlert problem.
I even tried closing Clipfinder and starting REDAlert from the Dock and loading an R3D in manually but I still could not select anything in the Quicktime options.
When I click on them nothing happens and the checkmark stays at "Use Default Quicktime Export Folder" it is like it's locked there for some reason.
Any ideas?

Maybe some problem with access rights on that disk?
If not, I'd re-install RA.
Can someone help? I have the latest RA, Clipfinder, FCP, OSx, Mac Intel, etc. I have turned on the System pref for access like Clipfinder Help says to do and I cannot get the clips from Clipfinder to open in RA as the original poster says. I even tried Clipfinder Edit Open in RA. I did the XML from FCP to Clipfinder. Why won't these clips open in RA as described in this thread?

Gary,
Does this problem only occur with the clips you imported from the FCP XML file or does it also happen when you import clips from .RDC directories ?
If it happens only with clips imported from FCP, then check the icons in the list of clips in Clipfinder.
If the icon says "MOV" (and not "R3D") then the FCP edit used clips transcoded to Quicktime.
REDAlert cannot edit those.
However, you can use the "Replace .MOV with .R3D" function in Clipfinder to get back to the original R3D clips and then grade those on REDAlert.
If this is all obvious to you, I'm sorry, and I would ask you to let me know so I can to work with you to fix the problem.
Cheers,
Hans
Hans,
All your suggestions worked.
Thank you,
Gary
