All of the Tweeter stores are closing in California. Items slashed from 40-70 percent off. Now its just a waiting game. The longer you wait, prices will go down even further as long as no one scoops up the screen you had your eye on. I'm waiting for a deal on a 1080p screen. Prices I saw were okay. The shops around my place are closing in a couple weeks for good. I'll probably wait until the last week to see whats left.

Good guys, compusa and now tweeter. PLaces are closing all over the place.

The internet is owning these brick and mortar places.

Dollarwise, the net is still tiny when compared to Walmart which is selling almost a Billion $ per day!

There were several news articles a few weeks ago linking the CompUSA, Tweeter, Circuit City closings and/or layoffs with Walmart's recent slashing of flat screen TV prices below $1,000. Apparently that was the magic number that forced these other companies to give up their high margins on flat screens.

Since every other category is already highly competitive in electronics stores, they are falling out left and right.

Circuit City recently decided to fire their 3,400 most experienced people because their pay was the highest. How long before we will hear of their final collapse, I wonder? Remember when retail was a real career choice?

Good point, Marcus. Walmart is a juggernaut.

Best Buy seems to be holding out so far, but given the competition of Walmart and online stores like Nextag, Amazon, Froogle, etc, can they make a horse race out of it in the long run?

Wal-mart is truly evil. They may have started out okay, but the devil is now at the reins. I don't believe in government interference in a free market economic schedule, but I do believe in boycotts. (:ranting2: Wal-mart sucks)
