Is there a way to export/import red files sd rather than hd for the offline? If so any problems with finishing HD in smoke.
I'm using mc 3.1.2 on a Mac book pro with mojo sdi.. the import is painful 5x real time. If sd is faster I'm glad to give up the resolution.
thanks in advance.

Why not use proxies? Crimson workflow? (crimsonworkflow.com)

I am working on a whitepaper for SD workflows. It involves MetaCheater for the metadata and MPEG Streamclip for the processing which is quite fast. I hope to have that done soon as a step by step.

Very easy to do this Adam. Just use Red Rushes to create anamorphic SD, edit and then relink to the R3Ds for post.
Takes a bit of fiddling but once you get it, it just works!

will this work flow work to generate a "good" edl for hd finish.. Proxy from red rushes.. Metacheater NTSC 24fps or 30fps ale list..import to 24fps or 30fps ntsc project in avid. red 16 edl..???

If you are working in SD the real 24fps timecode will be tracked in the TC24 column. Make an EDL using that column as the source with the RED16 Char edl as needed. This will be a NTSC 23.976 project.

When you do, highlight the entire START column and do a "command-D" or "Ctrl-D" and select TC24 from the pop up dialog box. That will convert it correctly back to the original 24fps timecode of the source.

can you not just run the usual workflow with HD (whitepapapers) proxies and then change the ALE header created in REDrushes (first line) to PAL instead of 1080?
also I have found that the REDrushes to standalone QT is not that time consuming, I got a 3,5 times real time. Export from Redrushes to DNXHD 36, then fast import into AVID. This was on Macbook pro 2,4GHz benchmark test, not with many clips though

I get roughly the same speed. If you are shooting 1080p/25 then yes. You can just change the format to PAL and keep the fps as 25.
