We're editing with an AVID DS and went to a vendor to output DNX HD at 1080p 30fps. They said that wasn't possible. Is this wrong? We then installed a Pro Res codec on Quicktime in Windows but with warning that AVID tweaks out with 3rd party products. Any one ever have an issue outputting DNX HD at 1080p 30fps OR with AVID acting up on Pro Res QTs?
THanks

1080p/29.97 has only been recently added to Symphony project types, but not Media Composer - Neither has it been added to the Avid DNxHD codec, so it cannot be created from any of the QuickTime capable RED tools. Your choices are to work in 720p/29.97 or import QT reference files created from REDrushes on a Mac directly into a Symphony 1080p/29.97 project.

Do I use Red Alert to make offline AVID files for an Avid out of house? What's the best setting in the output settings? I tried a few on my Mac and when played back they showed black frames, do I need to have a special codek on my mac to play them back? I'd hate to render all the files just to have the Avid guys call me to tell me they're all black frames.

The 1080p/29.97 is not part of the Avid QT DNxHD Codec so you cannot render to it from a separate application. You can import directly into a Symphony though - if that helps.
