Hi all,
A few of us have been discussing holding a regular open Red night in Sydney. We now have a venue, night and agenda.
The purpose is so Red users can discuss topics of interest/network but we'd also invite industry professionals, students and others.
First meeting will be Wednesday 25th February (7-10pm). See flyer above (thanks Martyn Taylor)

The University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) has generously offered to assist by providing their video/film studio (shown below) at Broadway.
Studio has retractable seating (75), Green screen, HD projector (5000 lumens), lighting grid/desk, audio console, video/hub, etc.
Studio is also available for independant hire.

Bon Marche Studios, University of Technology (UTS), is located at 755 Harris Street Ultimo, cnr Broadway.
You'll find Bon Marche studios located in Building CB03, marked on map below:

http://www.reduser.net/forum/uploaded/48_1235013540.gif

(Central station is 5 mins walk or parking is available in Thomas & Jones Streets)

Subsequent evenings will be every 4-6 weeks depending on night/availability.

The evening would be broken into 3 parts:

7pm: Red overview – (Dave Farland)
Some history, specifications, operation, post & future products.

8pm: Master Class - Apple workflow (Jim Hare)
Note: Further nights would discuss Red related topics i.e. other workflows, lighting/filters, audio, lenses, camera menus, data wrangling, grading, underwater, etc.

9pm: Open discussion
Evening would be open for general discussion/chat, showing of Red footage, live shooting etc.

The night would be a mix of Red owners meeting up to discuss topics/network between ourselves as well as an information night & contact opportunity for clients/others.
Extremely happy for anyone interested in organising, advertising, producing flyer, participate or whatever, to get in contact.

Dave
Thanks for all your support/comments.
We hope it's going to be a great series of nights. Cheers for the date fix, Pete.
Please post suggestions for other topics.

Wow! Looks really like a great night!

Any chance we could have something similar in Melbourne? Just got back from Sydney a couple of days ago, and if I knew this was on I would have stuck around and attended.

Thanks for your efforts last night David & Jim.
Interesting to meet you guys, enjoyed Jim's insights and presentation into the FCP workflow.
...and Pawel's PL mount converted Cannon (was that a 5D or 50D?) is a classic.

Thanks Chris. It was the 50D, my pleasure. I can bring it again and we can check if Red Zooms clear the mirror box OK.

For the next meeting see if I manage to cut some sample footage I took with R1 and MPs in one of the most stunning locations I have ever been to and just returned from. This remote island in the southern sea was simply :head_explode: if you are into living on your own among seals and penguins. The most exciting bit was that I was no longer on top of the food chain :yikes:

It was great night, with a full house. Thanks very much again David for organising another very informative and entertaining evening.

Sincere thanks also to Tom, Warren, George, Pawel and John for their presentations and sharing their various Red experiences. I'll leave it to others to pass on their appreciation of the live camera test :-)!

These nights are a wealth of information. Looking forward to the third...

Cheers

It was great meeting. I enjoyed presentations from Tom, Warren and George - very impressive, indeed.

I would also like to invite everyone to the next meeting where Jon and I will present some stories, adventures and footage from one of the most stunningly beautiful places on Earth located on a remote island in the southern ocean. Working under strict government permits, the footage was shot with very fine glass: MPs and Red 300mm, motion control and some of the best actors available: the rare and endangered Australian sea lions.

Thanks Tom. Let me introduce Grace on her 3rd day of life. I was with her and her mum from birth for 5 days straight. To my knowledge, no one else managed to film the birth of an Australian sea lion. They are rare. And, she is even cuter in motion picture :)

Big thank you to George Evatt, Tom Gleeson & Warren Lynch.

Great indepth talk on shooting and post on Red.

It's information from these experts that's hard to get and it's very much appreciated.

And to all those who attended my sincere thanks for making it a open and interactive night.

Next one (6-8weeks) will be announced soon along with major topics.

Thank you again,

Dave

ps: and thanks Pawel too.

Looked like a well organised evening - shame we are based in the sticks up North. Quick question - will any video coverage of the night be available to watch online for the greographcally challenged? Would love to see how other Aussies are handling shooting and post (streaming video also makes a nice change from trawling through the forums for tid-bits of info).

Sometimes I find a worthy online video, like the 'Travels With Red' interview with Rodney Charters (ASC CSC) in the 'Hardware Channel' over at http://www.reel-show.tv/ (http://www.reel-show.tv/). Love the internet as a research tool.

Hi David,
Sounds like a great night was had by all.
Like many others that don't live in Sydney, I could not attend the first meeting, but wondered if the second one could be held round same time as SMPTE, so we interstaters who plan to be in Sydney, can benefit from your gathering as well.
Look forward to hearing whether that's a possibility.

I'm in for one too since I wasn't here when the other was announced! We will definitely drive from out here over the Blue Mountains to see how you guys all use the Red camera. So looking forward it!

Edit:
... Hang on. The 29th of April is a Thursday. Is it on a Wednesday or a Thursday? Also, it would be amazing to have a red user night on a Saturday some time.
