We have just put the R1 on various of remote heads.

We did that too, last friday, on a 3-axis Powerpod 2000.
We found that the HD-SDI outputs do not work through so many contacts/bnc's, sliprings, and long SD-quality cable, so we needed to use the AJA converter for a picture.
That is unfortunate.
Another problem: making new cables for start/stop and power for the AJA converter.
That was solved quickly, though.

Rob, does HDSDI work through the slip rings on the power pod when using other HD cameras?
It is not unusual for there to be problems with HDSDI and slip rings.

Yes, probably the internal resistance is too high and the signal collapses. As it is a digital and coded signal (HD SerialDigital Interface?) a few missing bits might ruin the final reception.
We do not have so many HD cameras in Thailand so I do not have experience with that.
