I'm posting to find out if anyone who will be receiving a camera in time (once Red announces their release schedule) would be able to rent it to a production shooting in Michigan for the first three weeks of August. It's a medieval fantasy film entitled "The Ice Shield of Aletheia." We're shooting in a wide range of environmental and lighting conditions, variable framerates, a variety of practical and visual effects, and different kinds of onscreen action and camera movements (including some wirecam and aerial shots). I think it's a great chance to put this camera through it's paces and find out what it's capable of.

We're also shooting a battle scene with over a thousand warriors and would like to have multiple Red's to shoot that scene, but I'll be happy if we can get at least one secured.

As an added bit of enticement, and in the spirit of Red, I'm willing to post a clip or two every day of the production so we can all see and discuss how the Red One handles in different situations.

Thanks a lot guys!

-Steve

Heh. It's probably not a good idea to bet on using RED as early as Aug. That is too close for comfort, if you ask me. Then again, you might have luck with some of the guys who hold very, very low order numbers, if you could pay enough. What is your budget?

Oh and welcome to the forum!

Yeah, I know it's a gamble. We'll use an F900 if Red doesn't come through, but I haven't given up hope yet!

Our budget is still locking down, but it's somewhere within twenty to thirty thousand (I'm hoping closer to twenty, but probably closer to thirty :-). However, we're saving at least another hundred thousand by shooting it in Michigan and having some amazing connections.

We have such fantastic talent on this show that it'd really be a shame to have to settle for anything less than Red.

20 or 30 thousand?? Your camera and sound rentals alone will blow out your budget!

Is this for real, or are we being trolled, good Robin? :usd:

Sorry, that might have been a bit misleading. Nearly the entire budget is for camera and sound rentals. We're getting everything else for free (including quite a bit of the camera and sound equipment). Our fight choreographer is providing his services for free and weapons and equipment rental at a nominal charge, our costume designer and her people are donating all of their time (we're only paying for cost of materials, and these people know how to work the sales and coupons! :-), and all the rest of the cast and crew are working for free, too.

Also, the budget can go up without much hassle if necessary, we just want to stay as low as we can. If we start out with a higher projected budget, then we'll spend all of it, because we can. I think it's better to start lower and only go up when absolutely necessary.

What will you be feeding them, grass? :)

Well... actually, I have been known to work for grass before... :)

Hmmm... we will be near farms... grazing might be an option!:)

Most of our food is being provided by several very generous restaurants and grocery stores. The rest of the meals are being prepared by some of the residents of the area just because they think it's really cool that somebody is shooting a movie here and they want to help.

Lodging for the cast and crew who are traveling has also been offered. We've been extremely blessed on this show, many things have just kind of fallen into place. (Unless I've been researching fantasy so much that I've gone crazy and am now stuck in a fantasy inside my own head:shifty: )

Hey Tom.

It's Robin Hood! -;)

These things are possible, even though they are not initially a way of living, they can pave the way....

I know.
Been there. Done that.
Sorta miss it sometimes, even.

Key point (which Tom is concerned about and you seem to have grasped) is that you NEED to make this a joyous experience for all the people that de facto fund your project through their time and goodwill.

That is:
Feed them well.
Pay their rides.
And throw some good parties for those of them who are into that.
And be gratefull and respectfull!
Always!

You can get a long way with these parameters. Only don't try to get a mortgage.

Good luck!

you can look at RED map for names ...
