Hey guys,

so we're a small bunch of movie makers, settled in Stuttgart. And we are of course very amazed about the Red One and their features.

I'm sure the one, who would already placed an order for the full gear :innocent: , but there are still some minor problems, which are stoping me from shopping...

What about a Camera support, if anything happens to the cam?
Sure, we have no drum hours, since there's no tape system in the camera?
But what if a kind of idiot drops the cam, or something happens during transport to another location?
Will there be any human, except the RED Team, who will be able to fix it?
Or will only the Staff in the US be capable of fixing it?

Would be great, if anyone could give me some reliable information about that!

Greetings from Germany

Musashi

Hi Musashi, we are in contact with RED for a while regarding this problem. We have 5 reservations and are cooperating with another company which also have 5 reservations. So we have some good arguments to get this problem solved. As I understood Red they have enough pressure to get the project started, after that I hope they will be ready for any thoughts about the service for the Red one. As we are a rental company (www.rental.de) we need to have a service department for the camera !

Yes, an office and service center in europe would be nice.
On the other hand the transportation companies today are fast and reliable, a shipment to the US or inside europe has almost the same runtime. If the central service at Red hq is well organized, then they can catch up the time loss of transport easy.

In Switzerland, there are now about 10 REDs, we will form a user group this week and see, how we will handle service ASO. So for us, there will be a need to have somekind of service as well.

we will have 2 reds here as well in berlin, also with the option to have one as hot spare when renting one out.

and its not only about failure of the camera, as ludwig certainly will confirm, cameras have to be insured as there -will be- mishaps while shooting, and booking a standby camera in the rental house can be considered a must for any expensive "you-get-only-one-shot" type of scene.

p.s. ludmux! 10 reds! we are jealous! :)

And I´m definately going to get one in 2008, too.
But only one, not 10...

ludmux,
would be good to get updated on the service issue, we have ordered only one, but camcar one or two more, that makes at least three in cologne.

...and ours in Frankfurt will not be far away either (but hopefully be here much earlier :))

hi ludmux,

I'd like to order one, too, but I'm still not sure about the configuration that will suite my needs - nature & natural history docs - in South Tyrol. Premium package and the Red Zoom 18-50 for sure, also some Red Drives and Red Bricks. I certainly will shoot 4k Redcode Raw. But which kind of Flash Drive should I take? I am also enthusiastic about the different mounts for still lenses. I'll surely need a tele zoom lens, but want to know, if the stabilized Canon or that Nikon would be a better choice. Also, are there some suggestions about using a still macro? And, will there be some gyro-stabilized configuration (like wescam) for aerials?

Thanks for any advice,

Fritz Moser,

PS. if there's a user group in/around Munich, I'd like to join.
