Hey everyone, just playing with some footage for the first time on my system so I apologize ahead of time if this is a JV question (and I did search the forums for a definitive answer, but I may just not know the right place to look):

Do the QT reference files playback audio if it is present in the .r3d file?

I was just given a HD with no real info at all about the project (including no slates?!?!) and asked if I could help so I kind of wish I had an Enigma machine right now.

QT proxies that are pointed to your R3D footage contain the embedded audio (up to 4 channels) recorded into the Red One camera.

If there was audio recorded on to a separate device (i.e. Fostex, 744T, etc.) then that will have to be synced to your dailies separately.

Thanks JD... I have no clue how they recorded audio, I just have a drive full of RED footage and none of the proxies I play have sound on them. Just wanted to make sure that it would play through the QT proxies if it existed embedded in the file.

Now time to track down that audio.
