View Full Version : You say, DELAY. I say, OK.

I just have to say that I've been one of those people from the beginning that's not in a particular hurry to get my RED camera, so I'm not bothered by the need for the RED team to take extra time to get things dialed in correctly.
That said, I now get to see the flip side of waiting and I'm a bit concerned (not about RED being released, but having any money left to buy one).
I have money set aside for my RED purchases (sort of) and no real reason to think that it wouldn't be able to grow and hold for the release of the camera.
Now, however, we've decided to buy a new house a city over from where we live. The house will be nice, but less desirable than where I live now, which is fine because downsizing will give me a bit more resources to do film projects. Schools are better, location is better for families, etc. So it should be a great thing. The problem is that I now have to outlay a bunch of cash over the next 90 days to get the new house going and included in that will be my RED fund.
Now, things will be OK if my current house and property sell, but only if they sell for reasonable prices and the market right now stinks.
So, for all my patience I can only hope that #366 doesn't come up until the end of the year....and the flip side to that is that there ARE a lot of people that need there cameras sooner, so it may just be that I might not be able to get my camera when it comes around.
What a weird mess.
If you too are experiencing any issues with being patient, share it here.
NOTE: this really has nothing to do with RED and the team. I still think that they take the time they need and let the chips fall where they may. I just wanted to share the irony of my situation.
Thanks,
Jason

I'll run that by my wife, but I think I know what her answer will be. :)
I'm not out by any stretch, but it's going to come down to some serious timing. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Well, I can try to be of some help  I'll swap you my #1237 for your reserve. I'm pretty sure Jim and fellas understand your situation and might be willing to help out....

See, offers like that make the situation even more ironic. If we daydream a bit and RED would allow it, you know what would happen? My #366 would come up and i would find that my house and such had sold and I have the money and now I have to wait a year to get the camera. :)
I guess it's not a really bad problem to have.
I know we can't sell our res #'s, but on a serious note has anything been said about swapping numbers?

I hope all goes well and you keep your reserve. I'm talking out of my ass when I say I'd swap reservations. I'm in a bit of a financial situation myself. But it's tempting to know when shipping begins and the countdown starts! That's when I begin to scramble.... Max out the cards, get a 2nd loan on the house. The hell with it!!! :clown2:

I for one would definitely switch reservations with you, though I don't have one yet, so my number won't even be for real until July 1st when I order. But I am paying for the whole thing at that point (camera and accessories), so if you are serious let me know. (And of course we'd have to run it by the Red Team.) PM me if you want to discuss...
And yeah, I hear you on the wife thing. I once tried to buy a quanset hut to turn into a studio, and um, the wife wasn't too hip to that idea, to say the least.
Peace and good luck,
Tim

Thanks Tim, but just as irony is attempting to bite me on the ass, I also know it's not yet time to panic. Things usually have a way of working themselves.
I won't completely panic until there is an official release schedule and cameras are shipping.
We'll see what happens at that point.

I hear you insanity. I suppose that by the time I order on July 1st your camera probably won't be ready to ship yet anyway:)

Hello everyone,
I have been out of the Loop for some time now do to a family illness. I was almost ready to give up on my RED reservation. I think I'm back on track now. What is the latest news on delivery dates? I'm # 334. Thank you ahead of time.

Everything is "on hold" for a few weeks while a few key circuit boards are redesigned/upgraded, this voids the previously estimated ship dates. I'd imagine we'll hear something in June. Nothing more concrete than that.

They probably can't have it as a general policy, but I suspect if you have a real need/good story for why you need some time to exercise your reservation - that RED would give you some flexibility there in terms of shifting it to a little later. Given the numbers that are eager to get theirs it wouldn't hurt RED cash flow. After all, the delivery schedule has been fairly nebulous, which makes it hard for people to make an accurate plan on a purchase that for most people is fairly major.

Hi Insanity. . .
I would love to swap reservations with you if you are interested. I'm down about 2000, currently scheduled in March.
Just let me know.

Yeah, it's funny that this thread came back around. I guess people are just getting really anxious to get their hands on a camera much sooner. I don't blame anybody for this.
I now have two big houses and the property is still here, so things are pretty much the same. However, the real estate season where I live should heat up in the next month or so.
To add insult to injury my sewer pump went out a few weeks and that cost about half-a-RED to fix. :) Oh well, it'll all work out...it usually does.
Still hope to get my RED so that I can use it for a second camera on a feature shoot this Winter. Hopefully Joelnet is bringing his talent and RED to the project as well.
