Reduser is getting huge, I thank Jarred, the Red team and Reduser forum members for all the useful info, however I sometimes lose track of threads. I certainly can't follow everything. How about a few more sections. One I would like to see is a section dedicated to using Red for 2k. That's certainly not all I intend to use it for, however even as a 2k camera, I believe Red One can go head to head with just about any camera out there (note the just about).

I certainly plan to shoot a lot of 2k, particularly for documentaries being shot around the world. I plan on offering a complete 2k workflow.

For Red team, about formats, I mentioned this in another thread, is the format options chart actual on red.com correct ?

Is there an option to shoot with only a 1920x1080 portion of the sensor (now that you're making a B4 adaptor that magnifies the image to 2k, right ?) ?

If the answer to above question above is yes, can you use N16 lenses ?

Also, can you output via HD-SDI (and dual HD-SDI) while recording in 2k or 4k Raw to a Red Drive ? Because according to the format chart, you can't.

Lastly, why not use the new single link HD-SDI that allows 2k 4:4:4 (3 GB/s SDI) ?

Cheers,
Damien

Hi Earthling,

I definitely second the request for more sections. 2k seems like a good idea, though it is kind of the domain of the ENG/EFP section. But there are plenty of technical things to discuss regarding 2k that seem to make it a worthwhile sub-section itself.

As for shooting 1920 x 1080 windowed, I think that the fact that a 2/3" lens covers most if not all of the 2k area makes it worthwhile to just go ahead and use 2k windowed all the time. I for one plan to do that because it will allow me to pan/scan, zoom, etc. I don't care if it vignettes a bit, just being able to shoot RAW instead of RGB makes it worth it.

Peace,

Tim

BTW, Red Team,

There were many requests for an accessories sub-section. I for one think that would be a fantastic idea.

This has been on my mind for a while. Damien is right. Many threads are huge and completely out of hand and I am sorry to say it (some won't like this) but there are simply too many people saying absolutely nothing constructive and just blabbing away making technical threads into personal blogs. Please, please, everybody, if you don't have anything constructive, accurate and/or relevant to say, don't write anything. It's really difficult to look for bits of technical info in threads that count many many pages of 'noise'.

I hope we can use N35 lenses not only for 4k but also towards 2k even if magnified (AFAIK 2k scaled is gone now) where the 300m reaches 600mm... And with a PL 2x extender, 1200mm... WOW

It will be great for nature photographers.
