Just got this from Matt today. I'm totally psyched about these lenses!

Isn't it better to buy these lenses and send it to Matt for modification.

The following prices are from P+S Technik, New Jersey
18mm - 1450(B&H)
25mm - 799
35mm - 799
50mm - 499
85mm - 1015
Total cost would be $5717(with modification) where as from Duclos it is $6090

I considered that but decided not to, and am glad. I found I could have saved about $100 per lens if I sourced them elsewhere.

Matt tech-checks the lenses on the way through. One of mine was rejected and replaced. SOOOOO much easier having them just do it rather than going back down the supply chain. Also consider the double shipping, quadruple if there is a problem.

Pay the money and avoid the hassle. You'll be glad you did.

Compared to cine lenses these are a steal and in many ways they give similar performance. Good weight, smooth 270 degree focus range, gorgeous image and fast!

a lot of people are recommending the 50mm f2 macro over the f1.4 because it's a better piece of glass. it has less CA and it's sharper.... i agree it's a better lens BUT you have to look at the focus barrel!

the macro has a longer focus draw but it's not where you want it. the entire mid range (infinity to 1 meter) is over aprox 20 degrees..... and the rest of almost 270 degrees is close focus stuff...

even with a follow focus it's going to be pretty damn hard to hit your marks.

Which is understandably a big concern. But if you want a $5000 set of cinema style primes, you'll have to make some compromises...

i think you misunderstood...

i'm just saying get the 50mm f1.4 instead of the f2 macro. even though the f2 macro has better glass.

or maybe even get the Voigtlander 58mm f/1.4 - if the colours match up :)

wow, jenningsp that is crazy! good to know... I'll take all the CA over the focus
throw alone, add the speed and it should be a no brainer...right?

Its only $300 bucks difference and then there is all the shipping with insurance hassle, worry. I'd rather let Duclos make a few bucks and save the hassle.

or better yet, maybe one should give Duclos a chance to match pricing?

QUESTION:

Can you shoot full frame s35 at 4K resolution with these?

Would be awesome if SOMEBODY actually shot some RED FOOTAGE.

With all these lenses shooting the same light set up.

Indoor
Outdoor

Its great to read about, but seeing is believing

Oh yeah, these are the same Zeiss brand Nikon still lenses that will carry on all the way through FF35 territory. This would be a safe investment for anyone trying to put together a cheap lens set. Now, the question is whether you would rather go this route or put up with the still lens cons and go with a superspeed Nikon set (ie. 24mm 2.0, 28mm 1.4 or 2.0, 35mm 1.4, 50mm 1.2, 85mm 1.4, 105mm 1.8, etc.)
