I have a feature shoot coming up soon (Sept/Nov); we will use a custom 2k camera (approximately 2,400H x 1,800V resolution with a chip size of 16mm H x 12mm V -Diagonal 20mm). Any ideas on what lens will work?
Hopefully we can get our Red by then...

You might get a better answer if you describe your camera, project and budget better. Lots of variables.

The camera uses a custom built sensor that is being used in industrial / defense work. It has PL mount; this is for a feature and we have enough budget to buy any lens (digi primes etc…)

What you're describing sounds like a single chip camera, so you won't want Digi Primes, as they're for 3-chip cameras. So rule those out right away. If you can buy any lenses and want ones that will also work on the RED at 4k, then buy Zeiss or Cooke 35mm lenses. An image circle that's too big isn't a problem. One that's too small is. At those dimensions, I don't think any 16mm lenses will work anyway. I think 35mm lenses are your only option.

S16 covers an area of 12.4mm x 7.5mm so you'll probably have some vignetting on most of those lenses on a 16x12 sensor. You might be able to come up with a mostly S16mm set that happens to cover your sensor - lots of the mid range super 16mm primes cover a bit more that they need to. Give it a try.
Modern 35mm lenses shold work fine, It kind of comes down to personal preference if you like cooke or zeiss. the modern Angenieux zooms are quite good too.
You won't have much luck with any lenses like the digiprimes or HD Zooms that are designed for 2/3 inch HD cameras. They intentionaly don't resolve all colors on a single plane and consequently perform poorly with a single sensor.
Test everything early and thoroughly, It might not be worth it to blaze a trail with a new camera, making a good film is hard enough.

Thank you for the input… I will shoot some tests this week and post them (Also this camera can shoot @ 500fps)

Sounds like a good sidekick for the Red, are there any plans to market this camera?

for zooms: we are happy angenieux users here. even if angenieux is quite expensive, you can find good deals for used lenses, one example:

for fixed: the classic zeiss 1.2/1.3 can often be found at an interesting pricepoint, and it seems that when you want highspeed-shooting and fast lens might be helpful for you.

Maybe… ☺ it’s costing me about $10k to 15k for the camera that can record @500fps.
Below are some specs
Resolution: 2,400H x 1,800V.
Pixel Size: 7.0μ
Sensor Imaging Area: 16.5mm H x 12mm V - Diagonal 20.50mm
ADC: On-chip 10 bit

Sounds like a similar rig to the one used on Planet Earth, they used a crash test camera for their slo-mo shark shots.

Thx… I am working with visual products; just received some equipment form them. Also they are looking into building a custom enclosure for my solution.
