Hi guys

im just on set and im having huge problems, i want to change lenses but the 18-50mm RED lens doesnt come off anymore, I can turn the lens mount beezle into both directions, and the lens gets actually loose as well and can be jiggled slightly, but the lens doesnt come out of the PL mount anymore.

ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED !!!!

Sounds like it might be in crooked. Try sort of tipping it gently in the mount by grabbing the front and gently moving it up and down and side to side.

That's my thought...

Maybe your back-focus is loose? There are two hex screws on the right side of the mount. If not DON'T LOOSEN IT!

Or one of the 4 lock ears/handles/tabs is hitting something and the PL is not fully opening?

i tried that and it doesn't seem to work, for some reason the bezel ring that locks the lens into place doest seem to go far enough to the left anymore to release the lens.

Are the ears hitting something? Follow focus, motor, cable jammed....

rich: the back focus is tight as. and the cam is freely moving, the handles arent blocke :/

i guess its of to the tec guys on monday :(

Bummer, I guess tighten down the 18-50 and have a good shoot ;)

the issue from what i can see is that the lens has ben put in the wrong way, the registration pin on the top right of the mount isnt in its proper hole in the actual lens latch, but next to it.

so the ring actually turns in its proper way, but the lens sits in the wrong place and therefore the lens latches dont align up with the spaces of the mount bezel to release the lens.

Can you rotate the lens towards the pin?

Dominik Muench

in can rotate the lens slightly to the left n right, maybe a few milimeters, but not more than that :/

im seeing a cam tech at panavision on monday morning, hope its nothing serious :/

This happened to me once with a Peleng. Really scary.

I was able to get it off after about 20 minutes. Once you know why it's not coming off (i.e. on backwards) then you can use a bit more force.

Didn't damage the lens or mount, but learned an important lesson about being in a hurry while changing lenses.

Best of luck.

If this is the problem, there is a way to take it out:
just rotate the PL lock on the camera slightly till the point where the four "ears" of the lens are free from the lock, there is one specific position and you may be able to see it while you rotate. If you can't see it just go mm by mm till you get there.
Other option is to shoot till Monday with the same lens.

gdv: i tried that, but the lens is turned in such a way that no matter in which direction you turn, the for ears of the lens are never completely free.

jim: surely will never be in a hurry again, lesson learned :/

Twist the lens clockwise while turning the mount counter-clockwise. Sometimes the inner flange face of the mount [the flat surface with the pin in it] can work its screws out and become loose. If it gets too far out of whack, the flange can no longer loosen enough to get the lens out.

If that doesn't work, remove the "ears" of the lens mount and loosen the small allen set screw inside [it's under one ear... I don't remember which]. That allen set screw will allow the mount collar to rotate past its "open" point, which should allow you to turn it the extra distance you need to turn it to clear the flange on the lens.
