Anyone else in Michigan buying a Red. It seems like I saw that Abu Reno is in the Detroit area...

I'm in Central Michigan myself...

Awesome guys,

I will be ordering mine on July 1st. Providing I am not dissuaded by people on here telling me that it is not suited for ENG/EFP...

I live in Mt. Pleasant.

We will have to keep in touch on here. I'm guessing by your res numbers that you guys won't have your cameras until next year either, but probably six months before me:)

I'd love to check out your cameras. Too bad I can't do that before I order. I'm in major deliberation still, but feel like all of the competition is weak...

Hey guys, we're in Lansing and will probably end up getting a Red as well. We currently use the new XDCAM HD system and are very happy with it for commercial use, but will be purchasing the Red for movie production. I would definitely like to shoot some tests with someone to see the camera in action and convince the partners. Maybe a music video? I'll bring the grip/lighting truck!

hey guys...i'm directing a low budget feature in MI summer 2008. i grew up outside detroit and went to fsu grad film school (i live in la now). we're planning to shoot with the red camera. we have a deposit down, but we're also considering renting or hooking up with an owner who's interested in the project...(we have a dp already but maybe someone would be interested in operating/renting). either way, i just wanted to say hello to any michigan folks. maybe we can help each other out sometime in the future. thanks much...mitchell.

Hey Fellow Michigan Filmmakers,

I haven't put down my deposit yet, but I am definitely serious about doing it soon! I am still trying to build the right package for me. Anyway- if anyone in the Central Michigan area does do a shoot with their RED, drop me an e-mail. I'd love to be a part of it and see the RED in action, possibly before I put my money down. sbrookens@gmail.com

Enjoy your RED's when they come in!

Who in Michigan now has their RED? I'm going to be shooting for my documentary in Detroit June 16 - 24 with my RED - but I may need backup!

You guys should see a lot more action up there soon, with the new filming incentives.

For those who don't know: if you shoot in Michigan, the state of Michigan will refund you up to 42% of your budget. Spend a million dollars there on your production, and Michigan will write you a check for $420,000 within 90 days of wrapping.

There are some restrictions, such as that incentive will only apply to the first million dollars of each person's salaries (so if you have a $2m cast member, the incentive will cap at $420,000 for that person). And if you import your own crew, the incentive drops to 30%. The statewide incentive is 40%, but there are something like 100+ communities where a 2% "bonus" incentive applies, thus making it 42% total.

This is, far and away, the best incentive program in the USA that I know of. I would seriously consider moving any production to Michigan just to take advantage of the incentives. Even if you're doing a microbudget $30,000 film, that becomes $50,000 in Michigan. If you're doing a half-million dollar film, now you've effectively got almost a million bucks to work with. It's huge.

I'm available if you're in the Jackson, Ann Arbor, Detroit, or Lansing areas.
I'd definitely like to network if not meet up with some local RED users.
Hit me up if you need any help with your productions also.
