Just got the time to look at the web pages at www.red.com about the whole new line of cameras.
I noticed that the 645 Myterium Monstro is defined as 56x42mm
while the 617 Myterium Monstro is defined as 168x56mm.
I assume the 645 is exactly quarter the size of the 617 just in 90º rotate.
Meaning the height at the 617 (56mm) becomes the width at the 645 and the width of the 617 is cut to four (168:4=42) to get the height of the 645.
The sensor just come out of the line where Jim is waiting with scissors and cut it according to what we order...
Which lenses will go on them?
Pentax 645 and Pentax 67? or Hasslebald, Mamiya?

Well, Jim probably won't be cutting the sensors with scissors.

I'm pretty sure that will be Jarred with a blowtorch. Or a chainsaw.

RED announced their own 645 and 617 lenses. In the RED brochure from November a Linhof Mount, Alpa Mount for 617 and Mamiya Mount for 645 were mentioned.

Well your metaphor is fairly apt. The sensors have the same architecture so the only substantial difference between the sensors would be the design of their output hardware.
