Ok, I got a edl from avid and I can open it in fcp. Only problem is that the avid editors renamed the master clips after linking sound to them. So if I tell fcp to relink the footage, it finds nothing. If I look at the information of the renamed files, I can see a reel name like "A001" and then only TC in/out - any idea how I can get the footage relinked in fcp?
Thanks

have them make an EDL with the full 16 characters as the source which will at least tell you what clips they came from.

I second Michael on having them redo the EDL. If they imported by using the ALE created by RedRushes, they will have to change the EDL from using the TAPE name and instead use the CAMROLL in the EDL.

Ok, but in the end when I import the edl, the sub-clips will still have the same "changed" name, only that I will be able to manually re-link every clip by hand because in the clip information I will see some additional RED clip information?
