View Full Version : "Program Speed/ State" Mode?

Here's a feature request that may or may not be doable.
Switching to an alternate frame rate is currently a somewhat clunky process, especially when overcranking (reset resolution, switch menus, reset to Varispeed, dial in new speed)
Could there be a "PS" setting menu (perhaps assignable to the A B C buttons in the rear) that, when activated, gets you to your alternate speed setting in one button push? Just like any Arriflex camera with the "Norm/PS" switch. It could change the resolution if necessary and get you to your "program speed" (or if you like, "program state") all in one...
Often, when shooting, a director might call for an agreed-upon alternate frame rate, and the current process (especially the fact that the camera does not remember the last Varispeed frame rate) brings everything to a halt just long enough to seem clunky.
I don't know how possible this is, but it sure would be a welcome feature. For me, anyway.
Cheers,
Harry

This feature would be great... That's often the scenario, 24fps for shoot, b-roll at 60fps. There's a pause in production when a different frame rate is called. It would certainly speed things up on many shoots.

Harry a quick push of a button would be IDEAL on alot of levels. I know the feeling of having someone change on the fly, only to have to seemingly wait, until we go through our process of changing fps.

Anything to address this issue would be welcome.

It drives me freekin bananas that there is no button for resolution in the Varispeed menu - when 99% of the time you need to change it. ONE MORE MENU BUTTON and you'd cut the time it takes to go slomo in half.

Still you have to change or reformat the media? right?

Still dont know why I have to reformat the reddrive when Changing aspect ratio, resolution or even fps.

You don't. You can shoot any resolution, frame rate or aspect ratio all on the same device. Only if you change the project time base do you need a "new" piece of media.

Yes, anything to streamline this would be swell. Even just as mark said putting a window to project set up in the varispeed or vice versa.

A lot of people get confused by this. As J said, it's only Project frame rate that requires it, as in the Playback frame rate. Shoot varispeed in multiple resolutions all day long on same media as long as you are at the same playback speed.
