Naming your RED. Is naming ones computer something most people do, or something only my grade school computer lab teacher did? How many people are going to name their RED? What are you going to name your RED? I can see naming your dog, boat, or even your car, but your video camera! That seems too nerdy even for me.
#20 and #21 will be named Calvin and Hobbes. They will be rented out for $6,000 a week. Check out the website below.

I wouldn't be surprised if the folks at RED name your cameras for you... ;)
And so, out of boredom, i bring you Calvin & Hobbes 20 & 21.

I will be naming my red 'Marcus' and having it lazered on in half-inch tall letters. It brings personality to it, and it's a nice theft deterent. If #27 goes missing, I alert the community to look out for either 'Marcus' or a Red with a big freaking area filed off.

I started naming hard drives a while ago. It helps me see them on networks. I hate pulling up someone's network and seeing "pauls computer" "Paul C's Comp" "Paul" and "My Computer". I have no idea whats what.
I started moving through the alphabet naming them after obscure fiction i liked. I have one named Briag, from Flight of Dragons back in the 80s. I think i never grew up.

My RED's name is MOFO.
I suggest you call it Bad Mother F*cker and etch it in the camera. Then when you're on a multi-RED shoot and tell someone to hand you your RED and they ask which one is yours, you can say "The one that says Bad Mother F*cker."
As for me, mine will be called "The RED with no name."

I can definitely see the point of naming equipment when there are more then one of the same item involved. Besides RED has a name for all their cameras.
We used to name our G4's after famous painters back in my roto monkey days at Shadow Digital.
