Can't find it in the olde posts. What aspect ratios will we have available in the viewfinder. Will they be constrained to actual recorded area. ie 239 185 are common but i believe RED supports only 16/9 type recording.

RED has a 16x9 (1.78 : 1) sensor and that's the aspect ratio you are recording. You would compose using viewfinder frameline guides for any other aspect ratios and then create them in post in various ways.
For transfer to 35mm for 1.85 projection, for example, you'd compose the 16x9 image for cropping to 1.85, then transfer the whole 16x9 image onto 35mm, make a print (you'd have a 1.78 hard matted image on the film elements), and let the projector's 1.85 mask do the final cropping to 1.85.

It sounds like he was asking about overlays, not workflow.

How about allowing the user to select individual aspect ratio overlays, in addition to the predefined standard ratio overlays (Academy, 1.66, 1.85, Scope etc.)?

Wasn't there a suggestion about being able to upload your own overlay tiffs? Don't SI allow this?

I don't know if the overlay tiff ever got confirmed by anybody at RED, but I'm almost certain that I've read that EVF overlays will be fully customizable. But who knows?

Does anybody has more specs about the EVF, I´m pretty sure it´s a very nice viewfinder since RED bought Accuscene if my information is right, and this was/is a very nice Viewfinder with some very nice features, like a 1:1 zoom for the center area for focusing (which i would really apprechiate for 4K) but even with the Accuscene VF, the framelines for other aspect ratios than 16/9 were done cameraside.
Would like to see how RED handles that ...?

Although we always record a 16:9 aspect ratio image, there are multiple choices for displaying a different aspect ratio frame guide and also a simultaneous TV safe action / title / picture center overlay.
Choices include, but will not necessarily be limited to : 1.85:1, 2.39:1 16:9, 14:9, 4:3 etc ...

thanks Stuard,
This is some good news together with your other post that frameline info is stored in metadata :)
Are there any measuring tools like spotmeter or waveform planned on the EVF/Camera like it was on the Accuscene one ?
thanks
Manuel
