Hi all.
Apple "finally" decided to o.k my update to iSee4K my free iPhone app.
I updated the GUI to a sexy new look.
I made it build 17 compatible.
And, I added some new features.
The new features are:
* 4Kstore Reverse storage calculator (Space/Time)
* 4kStore now shows results in number of media
* 4KFlow added to help time data transfer rates, and estimate file crunching time.
Updates:
* Added Save States for all data
* Slick sexy updated GUI (no more grey text)
* RED Build 17 compatible
Removed:
* Lens2Lens (never really used it, let me know if you did, and I may add it back).
The iSee4K help site will be updated shortly.
Enjoy,
Ed.

Perhaps Ed is too humble to mention it, but remember iSee4K is donationware. If you are using it, please encourage development of Red apps by donating the $7.50 thru his site. www.isee4k.com
I think it is important for us as a community to support those who give their time an energy to make useful tools for us. iSee4k is a great little app that has just gotten much better.

I used lens2lens quite a bit for frame rate changes because focal lengths would be changing so much between 2k, 3k, and 4k that the lens2lens allows plugging in different lenses without having to consider the 2x or 1.5x conversions. Not crucial but a nice tool for speeding things up.

Lens2lens was an ok feature, it would be a really great feature if it had Nikon 1.5x and Canon 1.6x (cropped 16:9, 1.85, 2.40), and a bevy of film formats (1.85 Academy, S35 1.85, S35 2.40, Anamorphic, would be great).
I use my Canon 20d on scouts as a convenient viewfinder, and this would make it even more useful.
Great app, btw.

Used it the most, sorry to see it gone. It'd be nice to get it back, please.

Never fear, I'm working on putting it back in, just need to find a logical spot to put it in.
It will be added back in the next update.

What would you think about a framing util, punch in format, lens, and distance, and it will show a drawing of a person in the frame (maybe you could even move the person around with the touchscreen).
Would be handy for showing directors lens options when the luxury of a directors finder (or a director with a good hand for lenses isn't around.

Thanks for the suggestion Charles, but I just haven't got the time/money to compete with more fully featured apps like pCam (which has this feature and costs $40), I wrote iSee4k on my own time between shoots.
(pCam cost $12,000 to develop).
However.... If someone can find out the actual lens focal length of the iPhone camera, and its sensor size, so I can find out the angle of view of the images it produces. Then I might be tempted to have a play and see if I can't build a separate app that does something a little cooler than rendering an line image of a person. I've always wondered if you could use the camera for framing examples.

An iPhone Director's Finder!!! You would sell a million copies of that one. Has anyone seen ANY directors or DP's in the last year who do not have an iPhone?
With the rumored multi-megapixel camera on the next gen iPhones this app could only get better.

Hi Ed,
no doubt you're already working on this, but will there be an update to cover the new RedCode framerates and 4.5K spec?
Cheers!

Lens2lens very handy with last minute frame rate changes. I use it all the time.

I have a suggestion for an even better user interface:
Get rid of the "Calculate" buttons at the bottom of the screen! Automatically recalculate the data whenever any input value has changed. This would be so much easier to use and you'd never had inconsistent data on the display.
Thanks for this valuable tool, Ed!

Hi Guys,
Will update iSee4k in the next few weeks, been busy recently!
It's great that RED keep updating the firmware.. but I'm running out of space for all the options!!
Glad people are still using the app, thought pCam would have cornered the market.

hi Ed
great app but I'd really like to to know where you got your sensor size measurements to do the FOV calculations. The numbers you're using in the app are very slightly different to those 'officially' released by RED.

Those numbers in the app are almost a year old, I think they were the ones in the original FAQ, no doubt they have been changed slightly over that time. When I update the app I will look for the 'official' values, if you could provide a link to them it would be appreciated.

I agree. This is my biggest pet peave with the app. Just have it calculating all the time.

have a question on the Pcam app (i use both isee4K and Pcam). i'm able to dial in lens magnification factor into isee4K (which is 1.52 i believe for nikon & canon full frame still glass), does anyone know how to dial the magnification factor into Pcam app?

Hey Ed,
No doubt you've been busy - I was curious if there were plans to update Isee4k any time with either updated specs for the current camera, or, notably, Epic specs for 5k and those data rates (will be very helpful, I'm sure we all agree). Isee5k? Isee6k? haha :smile5: Isee28k?
I'll gladly donate towards this process, and speaking for myself, would happily pay for the app as well.
Regardless, hope you're well!
Warm regards,
Pierce

The app looks great but I'm having some trouble downloading it.
iTunes store tells me "The item you tried to buy is no longer available".
Could it be because I'm using an iphone 4 or maybe it's somehow connected to me using the Slovak iTunes store?
Is anyone else having this issue or is it only me?

Hi all,
isee4k is not available to download anymore, sorry!
(I didn't renew my developer account, so apple removed it)
I honestly didn't realize people were still using it, I thought every one had shifted to pCAM or to Toland ASC Digital Assistant.
Both those apps are significantly more advanced than mine was, so I didn't see the point in trying to compete with them.
If any one wants to sponsor the app I'd consider re-releasing it, but as it stands currently I don't have plans too.
I hope you found it usefull over the last few years.
All the best.
