Hi All,
I just had to share this with you, check it out: http://www.nyclu.org/sharma_pr_052307.html
This is great news for the little guy! - In the UK, our government is considering banning all 'unauthorised' street photography/videography - so the above story is very timely. I just wish we had a constitution over here:waaa:

The new rules are due to be published by the NY film office on Friday. I'm very happy as one of my feature scripts is set in NYC.

Just think of all the possibilities! Have Red One or Red Mini (Red 1 & a 1/2 or whatever else they call it) will travel!

Does it have to be handheld only, or does shoulder-mounted camera apply for this as well?

Odds are it's when sticks hit the ground... so tripod, dolly... c-stand for your steadicam? One trick I've heard of is mounting your tripod in the back of your truck and getting a dolly shot from the street. Bad traffic might work in your favor.
Ya know - with 4K there should be plenty of resolution to smooth out handheld in post if you need to. That'll be among my first tests.

Steadicam probably applies to hand-held, which is cool. Tripod is allowed for 10 minutes. Useful...not great but should make everyone a little happier.

that is great news, just got busted this weekend and had to move, our tripod was up for just about ten minutes

you will get hassled with a steadicam, definitely, whether you're in the right or not. keep the crew tiny and go handheld and they'll eventually leave you be.

How´s the situation in LA, we´re planing to go there in Summer for a documentary and permissions was one of our open points on the list, we will shoot 90% handheld.
best regards
