And what thread would that be?

I've deleted two threads by a problem troll and banned his account. The second of his threads was him whining about the first one being removed and then continuing to make the same pointless trolling arguments.

Free speech is one thing and trolling just to instigate an uprising is something else. We also have to consider that this is still RED's house and free speech can often be overrated or even misused. I have a strong suspicion that this troll is the same person who went by another name only the day before.

It was in 'Red discussion' where someone had piped up with some crap that was heavily edited. Truly, no problem so far!
The thread then changed for the good with a couple of dozen posts on reasonable latitude/tolerance given on 'open speech' and that which was defamatory/crap etc..and as you mentioned not entirely free speech.
All very reasonable stuff as far as I could conclude. Came back in an hour and 'Zap'.....gone, vanished.
I remembered a thread a while back where you were saying guys were paranoid about thread disappearing and they where probably just somewhere else...this one....

........
Most threads that go missing really just get buried in other traffic. 99% of the time when someone questions me about where a thread has gone, throwing accusations of it being deleted, it's just been moved and the redirect link is suddenly 30 lines down from where it was 12 hours before. Other than that, the remaining few are sometimes deleted because they contain unsolicited advertising that is unfair to our existing forum sponsors or is truly offensive in some way.

The number of posts I read complaining about censorship on this site outnumber the deleted posts (not including blatant bot spam) by at least 2 to 1. As I've said before, if someone's post goes missing and there seems to be no explanation why, feel free to inquire about it. But please search first because, like I've said, more often than not the post or thread is still there if someone just looks around a bit.

So I figured I should make an enquiry. As mentioned, myself and other were talking about how this forum supported open but not completely free speech. They put some time/effort into fair & positive posts.
Maybe some truly offensive crap was posted after I left but I hope that is what your ban/edit keys are for? Or if there's one dickhead's opinion in the thread you delete the whole thread?

I think we're determined what's happened to it...but thanks for the tip.
What happened to the real name policy anyway?

Hate trolls but still not convinced about the uselfulness of deleting the two threads.
Can't we just ignore the troll and leave him alone? He was just so lame.
I do not like the concept of "exceptions" on fundamental rights, as surely exceptions can be done with a good purpose (as in this case) in mind but this opens possibilities for bad things to happen.
Just think about the "exceptions" on human rights done by the Bush administration.
Here in Italy the fascist/mafia government is using the fact that some people are abusing the freedom internet gives (like child pornography) to start internet censorship.
What i'm trying to say is that a "Gandhi" alike approach is always better, let the troll ashame himself and just ignore him, not using any kind of enforcement.

No use leaving around redundant threads and posts as they fill up a place where actual owners of the camera or prospective buyers want to get useful information.

David, that is a different thread than what I thought you were talking about. Not sure what happened to it, but it disappeared a while ago. While you are correct that it did turn into some civilized discussion, I seem to recall that the whole thing headed in a bad direction once again, so it was either locked or removed.

Anyway, not to give the impression of more censorship, but I'm moving this discussion to the OT section. :)

Free speech is not for privately owned forums. Mods/owners can run the board anyway they see fit. I think this is one exceptionally well behaved place.
