I like this quote-
Cuban said he selected 4K projection technology "because cameras were being developed that did 4K and we wanted to be ready for them.

Nice. And I love how "indie friendly" Landmark is for renting out theater space for screenings and premieres and such.

Has anyone been to the Landmark here in LA yet? I just arrived and I want to check it out. Maybe they'll give me a tour of their new three 4k projectors... :)
What else should I do while in LA? I have some meetings then I'm going to Palm Springs! Whoo hoo!
Gotta love the week and a half off a year we get as Americans.
sigh...
I want 5 weeks like you lazy Europeans!
just kiddin!

Great time of year for Palm Springs/Palm Desert. Go have lunch or something at the Desert Springs Marriot... it's one of the greatest places on earth. Also, you should try to zoom out to Joshua Tree National Park while you are out there. Check out Hidden Valley if you do.

Yes. I went there. It is a bit "under construction" at the moment. Movie started late, seating confusion, etc. The whole inside of the theater smells like a new car, the seats are still too firm and the front rows are too close to the screen. The usual problems - I'm sure they will be fine once the crowds lessen and they figure everything out. It'll be nice when the bookstore opens too - then you can stop by there while waiting for your movie showtime.
If you're in LA for a limited time and want to pay lots of money for top picture and sound, check out the Arclight instead (which the Landmark seems to be trying to copy). Or check out The Bridge Cinema De Luxe, or The Grove (although Tom Holman dislikes the way their emergency exit signs creep into picture...). That's for current releases.
Otherwise, take a look at The Egyptian for stuff like Lawrence of Arabia in 70mm, etc, Mann's Chinese for that feeling of history, etc. Oh, yes, and AMPAS... I was blown away by the projection and sound when I went to the VFX bake-offs there. They're having some screenings this June.

Yes I like them very much, not only they have a great knowlege of digital cinema but they embrace those that do digital cinema, it is obvious to me that RED had pushed the race for 4k production and postproduction but it is also pushing the need for 4k projection and public screenings, I put the same system as they put in there digital rooms, it is also in THX klipsh speaker system powered by Yamaha but my Sony projector is the SXRD Pearl 1080p, the little baby of the Sony SXRD 4k and also $116,000.00 cheaper.
But all of this said it will take some time for theater world wide to adquire 4k projectors as Sony is one of only a few companies to make 4k projectors the price is very stiff.
But they can show off RED's 4k in 2k is okay... they will be blown away by the res and quality, lets just make fantastic films with it.
