A couple years ago I came across a website for a company that made saddlebags and rope ties for mounting a camera on a carhood or car door. It looked like a simple concept with the critical part being what types of knots and ties to use so the camera can't move in any direction. Does this company ring a bell for anyone?

Wow incredibly fast response. Thank you very much indeed.

Edit: By the way Leon, do you have any experience with the Cinesaddle?

I believe you have to be very careful with the Cinesaddle,it has a tendency to block the air vents at the bottom of the camera, causing overheating.
I do remember a thread some time ago, that discussed workarounds for the problem, which I think involved using the Red side handles.
Would be interested to get your impressions if you get one.
Tom.

From Cine Kinetic several months ago I bought a Cine Saddle Marsupial (full size one with the internal accessory storage pouch), and a Mini Saddle Marsupial (slightly smaller, same concept). I've used them with my RED One cameras quite a bit - ground level and on top of objects (cars, fence posts, etc.), mobile shots where a tripod isn't practical or can't be used.

I've been way happy with the results. As mentioned, blocking the air exchange vents on the lower sides of isn't a good idea. Since RED sits right down into a Cine Saddle its easy to block off the air vents if you aren't careful. As mentioned, there are easy workarounds for that: using the RED Side handles is one way, because the push outward on the Cine Saddle, provides a space for air to flow to/from the vents.

On cooler days, for quick shot sequences, things like the side handles simply aren't necessary. I've just placed RED in the saddle, shot the shot, them removed RED from the saddle, long before heat build up would be an issue.

Usually for the type of shots you'd be using a Sine Saddle on, you're also using smaller, wide angle lenses, and a minimum of other accessories (no matte box, etc.), thus the RED setups are small and light. That allows you to get away with the Mini Saddle, which is smaller in width - thus exposing at least part of the cooling vents on the camera to the open air to function normally. The Mini Saddle should be very good with the smaller RED cameras coming - Epic and Scarlet. I bought the regular size and the mini so I'd have size choices depending on camera setup size.

Creatively, the Cine Saddles are way cool. In use, your imagination is about the only limit. I like them!

These aren't just normal "bean bags". The beads are designed to absorb motion vibration. I've had good luck mounting RED on them on moving cars, etc, with no dropped frames. My RED Drives are all mounted using ET Shock Mounts, which I top-rod mount for Cine Saddle use, so between the Shock Mounts and the Cine Saddle shock absorption, I've never experienced any dropped frames.

You can buy them directly from Cine Kinetic (Australia), or from dealers like Abel Cine.

Planet Bike sells a rack mount for the Superflash. Works really well and only costs a few $$$.:)

Get a rack bag with some kind of mount for the rear light. My saddle bag effectively blocks the rear light mount on the seat post. The bag itself has a place for rear light, so I use that when I'm riding with the bag. If I ride without the bag, I put the light on the seat post mount.

+1 to both of these comments. Planetbike's rack mount (I use if for a Blinky 5 since it doubles as a reflector) is solid. Also, most trunk bags that have a rear light mount area are fairly stiff in said area so you'll experience little to no flop.:couch:
