How is media transferred from the RED-DRIVE into a Workstation for REDCINE or REDrushes rendering, and then ingested into an editing machine?
What other storage device is appropriate for storing the R3D files, seeing as the RED-DRIVE's capacity is limited?

R3D files are easy to move around, if you do not have a network you can copy them onto a 500GB USB harddrive and plug that into any computer being used for editing to copy them to that computer. You can also use a USB Flash stick drive, the advantage of the R3D files is their small size since they are compressed.
You can go to REDRELAY to get some R3D to test with, you can download REDCINE to convert them to TIF frames also for editing or just to look at the images full resolution de-compressed,

You can edit and color correct 4K for "freeish" with my system, see the link below about the workflow... I'm working on some new features making editing RED ONE footage easer, those will be out sometime soonish hopefully..

Thanks for the response! :-)
So can the external harddisk drive be connected to the REDONE camera/RED-DRIVE directly via USB in order to move the files into it?

I would just use the CF cards and move the files to 500GB USB external harddrives with a notebook or laptop computer. If you have REDCINE on the computer you can do some trial CC adjustments and export selected frames as TIF to do trial CC adjustments in other programs on that computer to see how the lighting will look after post.
