It's kind of a no-brainer- get the fastest system you can afford with plenty of RAM and fast RAID hard drives. With the RED workflow there's no such thing as too much processing power.

I'm waiting... At least until the next spec bump in a few months. The graphics options on the new systems are a middle finger directed at any serious graphics professional or 3D animation / CAD professional who was looking forward to this upgrade.

$12K for a system... Wow, Jaime, what did you do? :) I spec'd out what I would buy and came up with $6200. Of course, that's with minimum RAM and HDD, as I would supply my own. $300 for a 1TB HDD... puh-leeeeze.

Bear in mind that it took more than a year for this current update. :waaa:

All I did was max out the ram and select the fastest processor! I didn't even add the other 3 HDDs...

Hopefully Crucial will have the new memory listed soon. I wish you could order without any memory. Putting a side 6x1gb sticks is a waste. Figure I'll pump it up to at least 16GB when it arrives.

Jaime - check into some 3rd party upgrades rather than getting them through mac. there's plenty of reliable products (Crucial RAM sticks and such) that can save you a LOT of money when you're putting your tower together.
