I was just told that there was a Red camera over at Warner Bros and they were showing the Peter Jackson short to a couple of directors...very big ones. As I was told the short was shown on a 4K projector and looked amazing.

Perhaps I can persuade you to tell me what I wish to know. Before things get ... unpleasant.
Names. I want them all. *tying my ball-whacker rope...*

Awesome. Red makes a lot of sense for TV shows.

I'm sure it is true. Not only is it entirely logical, but didn't someone from Red mention a conversation they had with Warner Bros a while back anyway?

Its true. If I would have been working there today I'm sure I would have seen it. The person that told me I trust with no doubt. They have no reason to lie and neither do I.

All I know is that the studios usually get what they want. Not trying to say that they will cut in line or something like that. But if they really need a camera they will find a way to get one. There is a list of some of the people that have cameras reserved on this site. So what I'm trying to say is lock your doors and close your windows when you get your camera.

IMHO, Jim wouldn't cut the legs off the early reservations holders like that. He knows that many of us need to offset the acquisition costs by renting, myself included. And there will be plenty of RED's for rent for those who are willing to pay a fair price.

We will not give away Reservation Holders #'s to someone else.
We have made reservations non transferable, and it would only be correct if we abided by our own rules.

But, I thought this camera was BREAKING all the rules? ;)

Remember guys, Jim has a couple of his own cameras he can do with what he pleases.
I gotta say, it's unlike studios to own equipment. I doubt they will buy.

The studios got rid of their camera departments a while back. As far as I know they all rent.

Especially with something as 'risky' as a red. Remember from a business perspective, this camera is still largely untested, unseen, and unreliable. If i where an accountant and not a filmgeek, I'd tell my producers to rent not buy.

The studio ulitimately approves of the format the producers, director and DP decide on. It was a very difficult process for Fincher to convince the studio to use the Viper on such an expensive movie. It wasn't necessarily the camera per se, but the data workflow.
Many times a studio will even dictate what aspect ratio they prefer the movie to be shot in. For a while, during the early 1990's, many studio preferred films to be shot 1.85 because they transferred to video better. Which is why Cameron started pushing Super35 photography so much (widescreen + video friendly).
So it's true the studios do not own camera systems. But they do have a final say in what format their films are shot in. Trust me, Christopher Nolan didn't just up and decide on his own to shoot the major action sequences in The Dark Night in IMAX. The overlords had to okay that decision.

last fall i consulted on a project ( under NDA) .. we were talking which camera should they use .. 3 digital cinema camera's & 2 HD camera's were considered ... $$ was not a issue - shooting speed was - we picked a camera that we felt could move fast - i considered the camera used 2nd to last in quality ... the DP was not consulted ... he was told what camera he would be using ... the project played at cannes ... and i should say that the 1st camera the Producer asked about using was RED - so there are producers/directors willing to use RED ..
