Asked this question in a thread in Workflow, but I don't think many people saw it.
Does anybody know of a place in NYC that does 16mm filmout from HD?
Anyone tried doing this with Red footage?
You could try DuArt and Cineric, though 16mm film-out isn't a high-volume business these days. You might also want to try dvfilm.com, which is probably cheaper.
You must have your reasons, but are you really sure you want to do this?

i think duart does it, but the bigger question is why? the price difference isnt that big for prints. shooting on 16 to save money i could understand, but even then you'd usually print to 35. how many theaters are equipped to project 16 anyway?

Thanks for the responses.

This is mainly what I wanted to find out, whether the price difference was significant enough to merit choosing it over 35mm. I was interested in finding a good way to screen my shot-on-Red student film locally and at colleges, and I noticed 16mm seemed prevalent at venues.
If it's just about as costly as 35, though, then it doesn't make sense. It pains me to have screenings on DVD after having gone through the trouble to shoot 4K, but hopefully I can arrange for HD projection instead.

Yeah, talk to duart, they're super friendly and indie centric. They'll give you the run down. Actually they have a weekly demo I think. Call and rsvp to go to that. it's free, informative, and they'll stay after for any questions you might have.
