View Full Version : repository of Oakley goods????

This might be an oddball question, but do you think companies like Oakley have vaults of past goods all stored away for posterity? I can just imagine walking through vaults of untouched, boxed goods from the past. The smell of new synthetic and leather. The design of packaging and marketing gone by.

I know this might seem trivial, but I bought a couple of pairs of Oakley Box Top sandals two or three years back while on vacation and have been in love with them ever since. Also, sent a couple of pairs to my dad. Even until this day they are stylish and timely. The only problem is that after runs in the desert and trips to the beach they are starting to fade and I fear that they will die long before they go out of style. With dozens of shoes on my shelf, i will be left with nothing to wear. :(

I've searched all over the internet, but can't find anything, but a size 16 and 17. I've got big feet, but not that big.

Do you think that companies like Oakley has a private reserve of product? Do you think there might be a company that I'm missing that may have remaining stock on this type of thing.

Again, sorry for such an odd post, but I like what I like when I like it. I never go trendy for the sake of trendy and these sandals are a part of my personality by this point.

Thanks,

Jason

PS-My only grace for such a ridiculous post is that I know there have to be a couple even more ridiculous ones from the past written by somebody other than myself.

I want the old 80s Thermonuclear Protection t-shirt, royal blue with hot pink print.

Please, vault, exist!

See, that's what I'm talking about.

We're filmmakers, let us dream big dreams. Mine just happens to be walking through some secret, dark warehouse touching thousands of boxes of products-past. For atmosphere let's throw in some flickering overhead lights. :)

I can just see you uncovering the lost ark left there at the end of the Raiders.

insanityfw - "Yeah... it's good and all but it ain't my sandals..."

lordnumberzero - "I don't suppose there's none of those Themonuclear Protection t-shirts in there... you know the ones with the hot pink print"

insanityfw - "Nah, just some weird ghost things chewing on my soul and melting my face"

lordnumberzero - "Next box it is then!"

I ordered new shoes 3 months ago. Finally got in touch with them yesterday and got the "oh, sorry, our bad... looks like we don't make that anymore and we weren't ever going to tell you." D'oh! I still want my shoes. :)

Jason, that old insane post may have been mine. I've had a pair of Oakley Shoe 2.0 (2.1?)s on my feet pretty much 7 days a week since I bought 'em in the summer of 2001. They've been hiking a TON, playing a heap of Ultimate Frisbee, my pseudo-business and church shoes - you name it. That's what sold me on RED at first glance, Jim's quality that he puts into his stuff, and I fell in love with those shoes hard. They're just now starting to look worn on the soles, a bit on the tops. I'd commit various atrocious acts of debauchery to be able to find them again.

Bar none best shoes I've ever owned, most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. If I ever find them again, I'm buying 3 pair at least, because I'm wearing them for the rest of my days. Black, size 10. My babies. Straight up. :red_bandana:

just goes to show that everything old is new again. If I owned a company that produced certain products I would make sure to put a bunch of items in special-reserve for future sales. Just look at Nike's old Jordan's, etc. being produced again.

BTW - I recall Jim commenting on a picture of the inside of the RED compound in a long-forgotten post that the racks of crates and boxes were his Oakley shoe collection.

What really bugs me is that from time to time you find a design which you really like (which is hard if you're picky) and the next season or so...woof...it's gone...
I loved my black "Flesh" shoes with that mixture of futuristic-meets-organic design (similar outsole to Converse Tarmax early 90's basketball shoe, but better),
and now...they're past tense...

Just look at Nike's old Jordan's, etc. being produced again.

Proud owner of original Air Jordans 3, 7, 11, 12 (high & low ones) & 13 series...call me a freak, but...coming from b-ball background, so...

AJ's have always carried a special "something". All the other shoes are just "shoes". I'm more of a 90's generation, and I know Larry Bird and Magic had their shoes before MJ came, but that Jumpman logo carries so much...especially if you love "the game" and were lucky enough to witness MJ's career. Also, the shoe had many design and technology innovations over the years, which other companies tried to copy. Hip hop culture had a lot of influence on AJ's sales. Nowadays hip-hop is...well..pop. Hence the retro AJ series.
Next season the 23 series should come out...and join my collection.

Oakley's MJ adds certainly made me more acquainted with Oakley (I think it was the first Minute series, before Juliet)...aand now here we are with this cam stuff...

So I gotta love it...

Reefs are the best. I am wearing them now. (The best thing about them is that they are not made in China.) Oakley sandals are too stiff. You can get a pair of reefs for $10 at Ross. No need to beg Jim for a pair of sandals.

reefs are also ugly, so $10 is about right.... and I don't have to beg anybody for anything.
