Hi,

I have a friend shooting Wanted 2nd unit in Prague. He told me they have RED cameras in the first unit, but haven't shot anything yet. They still shoot 35mm.

Anyway it's hard to get there when you're not in the crew, because of those Jolie security guys...

Would be interesting to know if they are using the same cams as Peter Jackson did.

I'll try to find out, but as I've heard they have 3 red ones.

Nice! So maybe they will be used for more than VFX? Hm...

could that mean cameras with the new boards are being tested on WANTED.

God I hope not.. That's a pro shoot, not a director "playing" with a new camera. Only proven stuff should be there.

I have to admit I am surprised they let a camera with a partial feature-set onto a working production...

Wow.. That's ballsy.

hollywood features arent much different than indie features sometimes. spiderman 3 seemed like a typical indie clusterf**k--and surprisingly, i heard thats par for the course. they just have more money, but the people are still the same and can screw up (and do) just like us. i wouldnt be surprised if they got "ballsy" one bit. they should bust the Reds out and see what they can do!

I have to admit, I am looking forward to the first few res holders getting their hands on their Reds (and seeing their footage) almost as much as getting my OWN hands on the Red--I want to see footage! these next few weeks (dare i say months) are going to kill me. When will the waiting be over?

I feel your pain, I feel like I'm watching the clock on High Noon. Plus the big dogs at Red haven't been logged in much the last 10 days or so,(are they on vacation?) kinda lonely around here.

not that it matters.. but the more "pro" the production is, the less features they want. Give the "pros" Shutter and a Record Start button, and thats all they need and want.

They dont want little color boxes and menus that go on for days.

Yupp, That's one of the things I noticed firstly when I started to try to get a good camera.

I don't want digital effects (up the price), I don't want servomotors in control of the lens (price jumps WAY up), I only want half of the fps but without interlace (up up up!), I want a lens-less-camera (also a price-riser), I don't care about still-photo-function... etc etc...

Seems like the less I want the camera to do, the higher the price...

I love my old Konica SLR... it has a knob for shutterspeed and the lens has a knob for aperture and it even got a shutter-release! And I swear, I always get lost in the overaboundancy of menus and buttons of modern DSLR's;)

Some action sequences were filmed here in Chicago. No word on the cameras they used. Lots of cameras though.

My girlfriend had to wade through the production to get to her hotel. She didn't see a Red though she was looking.

Who's the DP on Wanted anyway? Whoever they are they must be pretty excited.

That's part is true, but having done a few things myself, a variable frame rate is still quite popular.

Yeah that was one of the first things I learned about cameras back in the day -- the more consumer the camera, the more nifty little features that no professional would really want to use. I mean most of the stupid little features they thrown onto cheapo consumer cameras (not prosumer stuff like the XL-2, etc.) are silly because any professional is going to do that kind of alteration in post, not on the camera. Like my old Panasonic had video fades and features like you would see in Final Cut Studio 2 or something, but to do them on the camera is unthinkable for a professional production. That's why you have the tools in post to play with the footage you shot as you wish.

1. RED cameras
I am in the air headed to Prague with "Boris" (Alpha) and two Beta cameras, "Penny" and "Bombay" to do some testing for the movie "Wanted".

2. Wanted is shot on two other location - Prague Studios (Letnany) http://www.praguestudios.com/ and CKD (Karlin). Barrandov was occupied by huge sets of Narnia (now in Slovenia). Light was shining every nigt over Prague sky from Barrandov hills while I returned from my work.

crew
Narnia - 1000
Wanted - 300

3. I supposed that RED will be used by 2nd unit for fx, but no info from my contacts till now :angry02:

4. Suprisingly I got some direct info from Wanted fx shooting in Chicago. Crew destroyed crane with camera during shooting car chase in 3 tunnels or underpasses. They passed first two ok but at 3rd ceiling was lower than camera with crane. Damage around 1/2 mil bucks (not sure)  Somebody from crew already warned DP (drinking problems) but he said its ok. DP fired.
