Rundown: Nolan is shooting a few sequences in The Dark Knight in full 15/70mm IMAX; so when we go see it on IMAX, most of the film will be scope 35 DMR, but when the real IMAX scenes come in, the letterbox will disappear and the resolution will be increased about 10 times. I don't know about you guys but I'm really stoked. I've been waiting along time to see REAL IMAX used in a blockbuster.

Interesting... I still think it's a shame they've gone for the joker as the bad guy in that film though, Nicholson did it so well back in 1989 and it hasn't really dated that I don't think it's a great move. Seems a like a money maker rather than an interesting addition to the batman series. I hope they don't look to use imax and a mass of special fx to sell it as Burton's picture was interesting, witty and had a fairly good story, one of the better comic book movies in my opinion.

Nolan has an awesome track record. I've got very high hopes for this number. Nicholson's joker was great, helped to define the joker character in other mediums. Doesn't mean its sacred though. We'll see.

why not just shoot the whole thing in standard 65mm, and then DMR it up to IMAX? this thing kinda feels like a gimmick, if the screen size is going to change in the middle of the picture or whatever. Nolan is actually one of the few people in a position to shoot an entire new film on 65. I'm sure an entire picture shot on 65mm would blow up nicely to IMAX.

Gimmick or no gimmick I still think it's great that they have decided to use the real IMAX format for once rather than just relying on the even more gimmicky DMR process which we all know is nowhere near the resolution of true 15/70mm. I see it as a positive step in the Hollywood blockbuster if anything. I do agree that they probably could shoot the whole thing in 65mm, but since I'm sure most of the non-action sequences will be mostly close-up dialogue scenes like in Begins, we really don't need anything more than 35mm for that. I'm really excited to see how how the IMAX transitions will be, because I can think of countless times when I was watching a film in a standard 35mm theater wishing the screen would double in size for those epic battle scenes; I am hoping it will be something like that effect.

You guys are so touchy...we are supposed to be opened minded artists; let's wait and see what they actually do with it.

Actually I take it back, we are artists and generally we think our way is always best.
