Okay one slaps a circular fisheye lens (be it the Pelang 8mm the Nikon10mm or even the monster 6mm) on RED what or rather how much of the circular image will RED see? Will it be cropped by the chip size bearing in mind that the above lenses were designed for 35mm still frames?
Basically is it possible to get a full circular fisheye image within the frame?

Hi John... the short answer is yes, the Pelang and others will crop... have a read through on this thread, lots of links in the various posts that will answer your questions...

Here's an example of what you can expect with the cropping, approximately...

Thanks for the answers folks!
The puzzle I have is that I remember seeing footage shot with what looked like circular fisheyes from as early as the 60's not to mention the classic HAL's POV in 2001 (though that was shot on Super Panavision 70mm!). 2001 aside some of these shots look like they might have even been shot on 16mm.
Anyone got any ideas how these shots might have been obtained?

Maybe the 8mm from Olympus for the fourthirds (FT) mount would work for you:
http://www.four-thirds.org/en/products/single.html
FT is ~21mm diagonal, and RED @4K is ~22mm wide... sensor is bigger than what the lens was designed for. Haven't used this lens yet. With all of the cameras we have here, the one I almost always take with me is an Olympus E-500, which has a ~5 micron pixel (similar to RED).
We will have a fourthirds controller/mount out for RED soon after the CanonEF is ready.

Nice to here from you Erik. Any news for us on your CanonEF mount? Price, features, what's included, accessories, etc.? Since we are all jonesing for RED info, but can't get any, maybe we can get some from you.

Won't be able to provide that fix... I hate to disappoint, but we are holding release of information until RED offers the final schedule for release of the camera.
Doing things fast is always a compromise, so we are going to take this time to make things better. We need 30 days from the point that we freeze the electrical and mechanical features to go into production. Software features will evolve.

I like toys... I mean tools. It is fantastic.
