have you tried mounting it with a firewire 400 as well as the 800?

plug it in, either to the wall.. or the mini usb port..
then plug into firewire 800

if your trying to mount it to a macbook,
you must either have the macbook plugged into power.. or the drive plugged into power

Also, try to just restart your MBP, did the trick a couple of times for me. Also, try all the different ports, especially including USB with an external Power Source. That version does the trick pretty much every time. And: be patient, mounting takes some time.

I don't really need to do that with my MBP - no problem having it unplugged with either the old and the new one.

Yep. We're having that problem too. I've had my drive since the early days of RED. Has always been finicky. But seems to be getting more so.

After trying several combos today. Finally got it to mount by using FW400 port on REDdrive to FW800 port on Macbook Pro using a 400 to 800 cord.

Same problem here, 800 does not work, 400 does...

Same thing here as well. One of ours does not work with FW800 on the MBP.

Can you post a screenshot?

I aware of a issue where you can short out the 800 port on the drive. I was advised on set it was a good idea to use a fire wire isolator lead and power the drive via the power supply to avoid this from happening. If your finding it won’t mount on any computer. I think this could be your issue.

So the drive should work and of course you can play back and record on the camera as it uses it own custom lead. Worth a check let me know how it goes.

Hey, had a similar problem. I hooked it up to 2 mbp's, using all the connections and AC adapter and a dell using Vista. Wouldn't mount!

Took it home and used my gf's vfx machine running xp64 and it showed right up!
Gotta love XP.

BTW, it was bus powered over FW400.

Apparently this is a common problem. Here is what happens - When you plug in your red drive w/o the external AC power adapter to a daisy chain (such as fw800) it does not get enough power and will mount for a few seconds but then unmounts its self, inproperly. This creates an error in the FAT32 file system that will prevent it from mounting in OSX or LINUX. 9 times out of 10 you can connect it to a PC (I've found that windows XP works best) and it will mount and you can access your files. This has happened to me several times now and I've been able to get my footage every time. ALWAYS USE THAT AC POWER!!!
