Avid has just launched stereoscopic editing for Media Composer.

http://www.avid.com/company/releases/2009/090302_native-XDCAM-support-and-stereoscopic-3d.html

Looks kind of exciting but I'm struggling to find much detail. I actually know very little about Avid, looks like if you wish to output a DVD you need a PC, so I guess Avid is a Bootcamp option really for Mac users.

I've been looking for ages for some piece of software so I could try capturing and editing two video streams, so I can experiment with 3D. Every thing I've found so far are about 8 years old and no longer work with Mac OSX. This Avid option I guess may change that (at a price).

Nice find, thanks for the link.

[I wonder how many stereoscopic tools or features that Media composer has? For example to implement HIT (relative horizontal image translation to shift the apparent scene further back or forward), or is it able to implement very small image rotations to eliminate rotational y parallax, or other relevant image transformations to eliminate various Y parallaxes caused by radial image distortion or mismatches in magnification and so on?]

Being able to display and edit in stereo is one thing but being able to “fix” the imagery for correct and safe stereo viewing is another very important capability.

Cheers,

Eric
