Just yesterday I was looking at the MacBook Pros and thought, I can't wait untill WWDC. I wish they'd be able to have more (4GB; not that much more) RAM and have a higher (1920x1200) resolution screen. Just yesterday.
Well, it appears I got my wish. It's also 2.4GHz Santa Rosa, 256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GT and LED Backlit.
Yay!

Great news. More RAM, new CPU, new graphics, new displays, new platform and better storage options. Very nice...
That 17" FullHD LED display must be gorgeous...
2Gb included...Mac Pro getting jealous...eyes wide open next Monday.

The 17 in display can be upgraded to 1920-by-1200-pixels the same res as a 23 in Apple display. Outstanding

Just noticed...LED's only for 15" displays.

It looks awesome. I can't wait for my RED so i can buy one. You know the rule, don't buy technology until the last LAST minute...I seriously doubt anything will happen to that product line between now and when RED ships, but I must be patient.
Could someone explain to me the benefit/problem with the Macbook 'glossy' display? they cost the same, is it simply preference, or is there an objective difference between the two that i should consider?

NOOOOOOOOOO! (I'm not correcting you; I'm having a hard time accepting it.)

You'll get a nice shiny screen that may pickup finger prints and will have many reflections But it'll be slightly sharper. Just slightly.
I'm going with matte.

I think we had the glossy vs. matte debate around here a while back. Definitely go with the matte display. Far easier on the eyes as it suffers from less glare. They're identical screens, it's just the plastic overlay, one is glossy, one is matte. The glossy can provide what some perceive as more sharpness or contrast, even though it's not real under certain lighting situations.
I bought a 15" glossy macbook pro and the more I've used it, the more I've come to really just not like it. If I can get it positioned where I don't have to fight with the glare, it's great, but the glare and reflections are a constant nuissance and I'll never buy a glossy LCD display again.
I'll wait to upgrade mine though... This new upgrade is great, but I'm going to keep using what I have (C2D 15" 2.33GHz, 2GB...). Hopefully in the next 8 months or so, I can look forward to 8GB RAM, solid state storage and LED backlighting on that 17".

Whoa! And I though I was too optimistic....:) Kidding. May your wishes come true.
Add to that 2.5" RAID, Intuos3, Shuttle Pro, and Bruce's 10" 720p monitor, and you have a pretty nice portable creative station...

Maybe Intel will have a good Core 2 Quad processor that Apple will use.

Thanks, Omen! I had forgotten you could use my monitor as a portable second laptop screen too!

They will - "At Intel's recent Developer Forum conference in Beijing, quad-core processing to go was at the top of the list for the laptops of the future."
