Question for the Red Team:

If recording in 1080p RGB mode (which will have some advantages for freelance HD work, notably deliverable content straight from the drives + 60fps w/ 35mm characteristics recordable to RedDRIVE (presumably, as REDCODE is supported at this rate?)), I presume that you will have to load the preferred LUT into the camera, and the recorded RGB files will feature this LUT "locked into" the footage - i.e. it will not be changeable after the fact as with RAW recording.

How easy/hard will it be to alter LUT details in the field, and what tools will be provided/necessary to do this? Or, will I have to have set the LUT(s) that I need in testing before-hand?

Oh yes, on another 1080 related note, you state that RedCINE will output to "any professional codec on your system" - I presume that we means we can output to Avid's DNxHD format (assuming you're running Avid) - is that so? Is the DNxHD codec open to system use or somehow embedded in the Avid program, does anyone know?

Assuming that Redcine supports Directshow or Quicktime codecs (which seems to be the plan), I would expect that DNxHD is open source. Avid is also somewhat open about DNxHD source code.

Thanks Glenn - yes, just did a little research and in fact the DNxHD codec family is available from the Avid website as a free download, so that looks like good news...

Read a little closer...

The DNxHD codec is available as a free download, but read the license agreement. It is for individual use only - anything corporate requires a bit more.

Well, we'll have an Avid license if we end up deciding to cut in DNxHD, so that shouldn't be a problem - more an issue of being able to obtain the codec in a form that RedCINE can use.

But thanks for the heads-up Lucas...
