View Full Version : Audio Post Production naming?

Hello, REDs! At the risk of being slapped with a fish; I've exhausted my time for the day in looking around otherwise, so I'm just going to come out and ask:

Has anyone got a workflow/workaround/software/technique/ETC. for "appropriately dealing with" the RED's naming conventions and, when we get it in audio post, can actually figure out that A001_C001_090324etcetc is actually Reel012 Scene 46 Take 3 ?

The last project we did, frankly, was utter hell. Can't recall which build version was used on set but it was a year ago basically. And I am reading as much RED manual and white paper, etc. as I can because we're prepping for a STUDENT FILM shooting on RED right now and the GOOD thing about that it gives me an opportunity to (hopefully!!!) be present for steps from the first archiving of CF data through conversion to ProRes through load into FCP through edit through OMF output to us in audio.

Anyone have any answers/suggestions/things to read? GREATLY appreciated. Thought I'd come ask all you REDUSERs out there! Nice forum, glad to see it.

(and, for my two cents as an audio post editor/mixer, I'd luh huh huvvvv to see metadata entry on-set from the A.C. dep't in conjunction with the location recordist / clapper loader so that Scene and Take gets sent to the RED. "easily" done through some external entry device via USB or a CrackBerry or iPhone...mmph)

Thanks for any tips or direction to go read elsewhere.
-Jeff

I'm with you Jeff. With open eyes/ears.... I'd love to know how others work this out. I to have a student shoot in 2 weeks to contend with.

For the film I am currently in production for, I have created an Excel spreadsheet, with the following columns:

Date Date filmed
Video Clip # Just the Clip number part of the R3D name
Audio Clip # audio is in WAV files
Scene
Shot
Take
Use? Yes/No
Description
Special notes

Then I can sort this by Scene if I want to see what files to drag into Adobe for an edit.

Or I can sort by Video Clip # to fins which audio file matches it.
