Sony HXR-MC1 high-definition POV camera

"Sony’s new high-definition compact point-of-view (POV) camera
and solid-state recorder combination — model HXR-MC1 – has
a unique design that separates the camera head from the control
unit/recorder, giving professional users more flexibility to capture
shots in video applications where increased mobility is required
beyond the use of traditional hand-held or shoulder-mount cameras,
such as extreme sports, reality TV, documentaries, nature, wildlife and more.

The HXR-MC1 high-definition POV camera is available now for a suggested list price of $2,995."

I remember that at the Mike Leigh's film "Happy-Go-Lucky" in the car sequences were all shot with

quite similar set of 6 to 8 HD POV Iconix or similar cameras.

Actress and actor were diving in the car and everything was shot/recorded without any camera crew inside that particular car.

From 6 to 8 Iconix (http://www.iconixvideo.com/) like a small cameras were set and installed

at several different positions and angles inside of the car by proposals from technician, cinematographer and director.

If you would like to see how it is done then get DVD version of the film and look for the extras.

I'm thinking a custom designed hat for a fake "window tinting" company that has an embroidery design with car or truck and the window is made of one-way glass. Now that would make for some cameo shots. Mount the camera hidden inside and run the cable down the back of your neck hidden by a bandanna.

when i first heard about this i was very interested, for the first time in ages, about a camera made by Sony. however when i looked into it i realized it was interlaced only, so now i'll just wait and see if sony ever release a progressive version.

it is a very good price but i would pay more for a progressive version and one with a cable that can replaced for a longer or shorter cable as needed.

I'm invited next Thursday for a test of that mini "spy size" camera.

Stay tuned.

Are the Iconix cameras progressive?

Yes; we worked on a music video last year that used it as a helmet cam and intercut with RED ONE footage. Looked great, although carting an HDCAM deck around behind it was a bit tedious :)

Sure wish RED would make a 2/3" POV version of Scarlet with this form-factor. I could use the red mini primes.

A friend who shoots for Discovery Channel just bought several of these and likes them.
Before he was using the SD POV camera.
