Has anyone ever had this probelm before? I try to import an r3d file into the trial version of AE CS4 and this comes up: "After Effects error: Can't import file ... unsupported filetype or extension."

The Adobe website addresses this problem and tells me to make sure I'm using AE 9.0.1 with all the latest updates and be sure to install everything in a particular order. http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb407992

Here's what I've done in this particular order:

1. Installed AE CS4
2. Updated CS4
3. Installed Red CS4 installer
4. Copied "REDSettingsPal" into AE folder

Am I missing something here? Thanks for your help.

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

I had the same problem, but when I installed the update 9.0.1, everything works ok.

Apparently the trial version is missing the functionality needed to open R3D files. Rest assured the full version works beautifully and will get even better with 4.1 release.

That said, it would be good for Adobe to release an R3D capable trial version because they are losing potential customers when they have arguably the BEST reasonably priced system today for editing Red footage!
