RED will not have a traditional booth, but there will be lots of RED cameras, RED presence, RED lenses, and RED news, all over NAB:

*Jim J announced prototype showing of SCARLET, EPIC and RED LENSES at RedUser meet!

Jim J's quote Mar 30: (See Recon,Red at NAB, sort of, for full details)
"RED will be displaying prototypes of Scarlet and EPIC, along with the RED Professional lenses at the Reduser party at the Rio Hotel on Wed. April 22nd. There will be many RED vendors there displaying in the Amazon Ballroom all day long... maybe into the evening. I suspect that there will also be some special guests.

We will also bring a lens projector with us to give you a first hand look at the performance of the RED Pro Primes and Pro 18-85mm zoom.

I believe that there will be a 2K Christie projector showing the latest reel... so make sure you stop by. This is where the action will be. :-)
Jim (end quote).

* Ted S. is presenting "Red Digital Cinema Update" at the DOP workshop, on Sat. Apr 18, 3:45 -5:15 pm. per NAB conference notes. I wonder what crown jewels Ted has inside his pelican case !! (Red primes?)

* "Red On-Set Workflows" at the DOP workshop, on Mon, Apr 20, 3:30 - 4:45 pm. per NAB conference.

* Ted S doing some workflow presentation at the Digital Vision booth. This is per Digital Vision newsletter.

* Jim J's official thread 3/26 9:29 : See and test "a few RED primes at NAB". Jim J will be bringing a few RED primes around NAB with a lens projector, and invites you to compare with any lens. Wow!

Jim J's actual thread:
"We will have a few (Red lens) sets at NAB even though we won't have a booth. We'll post where they will be in plenty of time before the show begins. We also plan to have a lens projector available to showcase the optical quality of these primes and will invite anyone to bring whatever lens they want for comparison." (end quote) Jim J.

* See Red cameras and acc from these Red rental shops: Abel Cine, Alan Gordon, Bexel, Birns & Sawyer, Photo-sonics, 4K Ninjas, Sim video, others.

Sellers of Red acc.:
-Air Sea Land Gear (formerly toys4red) for break out panel.
-AJA & Blackmagic Design for mini signal converters.
-Element Technica for brackets, holders, panels, break out box, hybrid sliding plates, mantis shoulder mount, EVF holder, etc.
-P+S Techink for IMS lens universal mount,
-Schneider Optics for IR filter
-Zacuto for brackets, holders, arms, clips,
- others.

*High end (big bucks) post systems: Assimilate Scratch, Avid, Autodesk, Digital Vision, Quantel, etc.

*4K & HD monitors: Astrodesign, Chi Mei, Ikan, Marshall, Panasonic, Sony, Transvideo, Westinghouse, etc.

*4K Cameras, maybe this year? Arri/Dalsa, JVC, NHK currently at 8K, Panasonic, Panavision, Sony, others.

*4K Projectors, when? Christie, JVC, Texas Instrument DLP, etc. Sony 4K SXRD available now,

* RED user group meeting. Apr 22, 2009. Wed. 3-11 pm. Rio Hotel, Rio Amazon Room. Someone add details and exact schedule to this subject please. Many will consider to be at the NAB until it closes for the day on 6 pm, so a schedule of presentations would be nice. I look forward to hopefully meeting up with veteran greats and expert Red shooters like Steve Gibby, Blair Paulsen, Champe Barton, Dave Hillman, etc. whom I had the distinct honor of filming with ten (10) Red cameras for the Journey concert in Manila mid March.

The above unofficial list (and by no means comprehensive) is arranged alphabetically, just my personal notes to NAB, not official news from anyone remotely respectable!

Please feel free to add or delete to/from my list, make corrections, and make our NAB trip more fruitful. I am, after all, merely from some third world country across the Pacific river, where English is not my native tongue ! :-)

I would be highly honored and eternally flattered if Red and other Red enthusiasts can add to my silly notes.

I do not work for Red but I regularly crack my piggy bank to offer them full contents ! with extreme pleasure, of course!

Thanks for that excellent list, and the kind words Oli...

It was great meeting you and working with your guys in Manila. Seriously a pleasure...

Don't know if I'll make it to NAB this year, but if I do I'll look forward to chatting with you again. At NAB, the RED User group meeting was way good last year, and I suspect it will be again this year.

Salamat po!

Yea, when you put it that way maybe the reason why Red isn't going is cause they don't need to, they are already all over the place. : )

For those wondering or haven't seen the details for REDUSER NAB 2009

Wednesday April 22
3-11PM
The Rio Amazon Ballroom

Don't want to be a hype machine because it's not my style, but this event is going to be pretty damn good.

We need to get Steve some hype training.

If you skip this event ... you will regret it.

Hi Steve,

thanks for your update and efforts. RedUser at NAB is always a must-be-at event.

3 - 11 pm is lots of time. It would be appreciated if you can post a tentative schedule from 3 pm onwards. I hope the more important presentations are at about 6:30 pm onwards, as NAB for the day closes at 6 pm.

thanks again,

Oli

-P+S Techink for IMS lens universal mount

Have there been talks between RED and IMS regarding the warranty situation?

Especially with the RED (and other) PL primes coming, it would be great for those of us shooting on still lenses, enabling us to slowly move over to PL mounts again. (And for those on PL mounts, would enable them to use specialized still lenses for special shots.)

Hi Martin,

I have the same desire and concern. But I guess this will be decided by the top chiefs of Red and P+S Technik, rather than us users. Like you, I would not want to jeopardize my Red warrantee, thus will not consider P+S Technik's wonderful lens mount until it is granted imprimatur and declared kosher by Red.

cheers,

Oli

I am happy to report that Gary Adcock has asked me to be part of the Red On Set Workflow presentation in the Director of Photography track of the educational sessions.

RED On-Set Workflow

The funny thing is, it can be hard to convince people just how easy it is to work with Red footy. They are often wedded to a very particular workflow that isn't a neat fit with the r3d or proxy paths. OK, that's like telling me you want to drive from San Francisco to LA as quickly as possible but I have to use the New Jersey Turnpike for part of the route.

At the end of the day, unless you are never going to do NLE editorial or finishing on any modern computer based platform, a fully data based pipeline is hard to beat.

Note to those of you on the forum like Ian who have created apps for integrating RedCode based post into the more common files types (QT, DPX, etc) while intelligently managing metadata (especially timecode) I would like to include information about your solutions during my talk at NAB.
Please contact me at blair(at)alacritymedia(dot)com to provide a demo version of any software and a brief description of it's features.

NOTE: I DO NOT WORK FOR RED DIGITAL (though I wish I did :yikes:)

I'll be showing some great new Phantom stuff and demonstrating the system and easy workflow. That plus breaking stuff in slow motion. Always fun.

This is part of the Director of Photography track sessions. It's on Sunday morning around 9am. I don't recall the details but info is available on the NAB website.

I will be joining Douglas Spotted Eagle in presenting the In Depth: Shooting Extreme Sports session, as part of the Post Production World Conference at NAB09.
I will deconstruct two unique extreme sports projects; An urban Parkour documentary [Free-Running] shot in Tel Aviv and a Mountain Bike Downhill short at a world famous location...
Info on the lecture can be found here (http://www.nabshow.com/2009/education/sessiondetail.asp?id=150715).
These projects were not shot on RED, but will be interesting to breakdown...
