Since I'm in between films right now  and have alot of extra time on my hands to learn more, ( can never stop learning ) I realized I had no 'intro' to the ' live performance vids' I was making for bands, and my co name was nowhere to be seen.
I put this together last night and wanted some opinions on whether or not I was going the right direction...

Since my company is Digital Iris Media ( obv!) and my goal was to bring new life to an OLD avatar....(see pathetic pic on left).....any suggestions?
Thanx!

make it less (arts college promo video intro)
i think you should have the screen be completely black.. then slowly have an eye open. (real eye) with like a vibrant color to the color portion of the eye (sorry im not a optomologist.. dont know the eye lingo).. then flash it to almost a surreal photo or black and white of that eye after it opens...
im not making any sense! but i see it in my head and its cool

I recommend looking for a stronger visual representation, and simpler movement for a logo - it should reveal the name, not wander.
Google some eye shapes - then break it down to the core items.
Avoid the video elements - this is graphic design come to life. Oh - a better font would definitely help. Start here: www.dafont.com

Start with a simple, but strong design, and then shake it.
Working only with black & white helps.

The iris seems to be floating on top of the "white" of the eye (the purple banded area). I think if you attached the iris to the white so the white also moves, it will make a little more sense... or maybe you're not after that kind of thing.

Its a pretty poor choice of color for the font considering what it's sitting on.
comparing it too your avatar image this probably wasn't the right direction in my opinion.

Nothing personnal, but it's terrible. Get a designer. There a tons of talented starving designers out there. Your company name is cool, it deserves a great logo! :)
This here is cheap and great! http://logotournament.com/
Out sourcing for a logo shouldn't me too crazy $$, you can find tons of great tutorials online for motion and afx. The only problem with your logo is that it feels like you just started learning motion and I assume you want it to feel like a normal graphic that everyone says ooohh ahhh. <Hard to do!

I think a great graphic logo with simple fade-in/fade-out is basic classy and efficient as opposed to too much DIY star-wars effect that will make people grin and create the wrong effect you don't want...

thanx for all your feedback! I TOTALLY appreciate it
After looking at it over and over again, I see that it does indeed have 'Motion newbie' written all over it...:yikes:
I'm currently revising with a designer friend and will have something up soon for you all to peruse.
Thanx again!!
BTW...that logo tournament site is pretty interesting....
