Hi, I have a couple of questions about things that I'm not clear about yet.

1. For recording to various media, do I need a Red module to record to the HDD (the $900 HDD option) or is that just ready to go if I get the body and the Reddrive?

Secondly, as I want to record on to one of the flashcard options when their technology catches up to the Red age, when I buy the flashcard module, is that interchangable with whatever recording solution I use for recording to the drive (whether that is a module or not)? I mean is it quickly and easily possible for me to change between shooting onto the Red drive, and then shooting on compact flash of express flash cards... I know that if I get the red raw module I have to have that installed at the lab and that will effectively be my only choice, but I was just wondering about the interchangability of those other options shooting redcode.

thirdly, I already have a nice high definition 7 inch LCD monitor that I bought to ride on my HVX200 for shooting with a 35mm adapter... it has a nice variety of pro inputs and such. Will I be able to use this LCD monitor with the Red One as my monitoring device, or will I need a Red LCD or EVF? I'll get a Red arm to tack it on with...but if I've already got the monitor it'd be a shame to waste a couple of thousand bucks on another one when I'd rather buy more Redbricks and such instead.

Sorry if this was asked already ages ago...the only tiny downside of this wonderful forum is the sheer volume of information we have here now.

Perhaps if someone has a link to the relevant thread that'd be swell.

I basically just don't want to order my lovely red gear but when I take it all out of the box I can't use it because I've misunderstood the layout of what module is required and such.

Thanks.

Mik.

1) The RED DRIVE does not require a flash module to record - it connects to the camera via a LEMO cable.

2) Since the RED DRIVE connects via a cable, the flash interfaces [which replace that panel on the left side of the camera] can be installed at the same time. The camera can only record to one at a given time, though... that is, you could have both a flash interface and the RED DRIVE connected, but you would have to choose which you wanted to record to. It sounds like it'll do what you want.

3) If it has an HD-SDI or HDMI input, it should work. There is a 720p preview output [HD-SDI] that shows the onscreen menus and frame lines, so you don't need the EVF or LCD... you can just use your own.

Thanks very much. That's great on all counts.

Ohh, I'm ready to order now! So exciting.
