I thought this would be a picture of 10, 000 IO-hds
But seriously, these look great - as does the ProRes codec.

Wow. That's really impressive! I have to say, I saw the NYC Apple FCS demo with the Peter Jackson footage in ProRes 1080p, and it looked spectacular. I can't even imagine what the 4K version looked like...
But back on topic: The IoHD was also on display, and it looks very sweet. If I was doing any kind of broadcast work, I'd definitely want this in my toolkit. As it stand now, I'm only working on feature films, so it's 4K RedCode all the way for me.

Any other app other then laptop users or inferior systems users?
In a world of quad cores and octacores with multiple GPUs....
Could use a link that explains more.

We've been banging on it and it's pretty damn impressive.
Also, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Apple will MOST LIKELY release a ProRes444 codec as well.

I suspect the clue is in the name!

Unfortunately I can not do that as this will double on set during shooting, but we will try to keep an eye on it wit the rest of the gear(RED's).

If the 10K units figure is anywhere close to accurate, then this is damn impressive. I'm eagerly awaiting a ProRes 444, which I'm sure is imminent. But for now, I'm now editing with ProRes 422 for my animation (I was using DVCPROHD) and it's very impressive. I'm not sure if I'll be getting an IOHD box. Maybe if I start doing more broadcast work... But it looks like one of those cool tools that will pay for itself the first one or two times I need it.
I will say that I'm not sure if I like what ProRes does to my DVCPROHD HVX footage when I transcode though. But I haven't really played with that very much.

Im not sure what all the hub bub is about for the IoHD. Its main strength is portability and being used on set with a laptop to capture directly to ProRes.
Im unclear as to how much hardware acceleration is provided while editing. Anyone care to share? Id like to see a ProRes 'realtime' effects test with and without IoHD connected. Id guess the difference would be slim to none.
I think it's a nice product im just not as wowed as others seem to be.

I don't think ioHD provides any real-time acceleration while editing, but I may be wrong. I thought the purpose was a compact, desktop device that could take any incoming video stream and encode it to ProRes in real-time as well as play back ProRes and possibly other formats to external video devices. It has internal support for full raster 1080p 4:2:2. Additionally, it also serves as a video processor to aid in transcoding video to and from ProRes format. I haven't got my hands on one to try it out yet, but it looks interesting. For anyone needing i/o for HD decks and cameras, DDRs, using external component or SDI monitors from a notebook, etc.. This looks like a great device.
Edit> In a Mac tower, I would think that an internal card like the Kona series would be better as you also get acceleration.
