I am sorry, but for me the whole 'RED revolution' is based on the price factor...I do mind if the price goes up.

And please I am not anti-RED or any such thing before everybody starts pouncing on me...

I love RED and am going to buy RED because it is going to make the best picture quality available at a REASONABLE PRICE...

Funny isn't it!!! I feel people in this forum are so passionate about RED that writing anything that is remotely against RED is quickly squashed - just like the Soviet Union of a few decades ago...I LOVE RED (just in case..)

the revolution is, yes the price... but.. that price can inflate and still be in the revolution phase.. Red will never go to pana or sony prices! thats the good news

Hmmm...just because we can't find another 4K camera at that price point RED is justified in increasing their price...? I don't think that's the philosophy behind RED.

nO NO. my point is getting lost.. I hope red maintains.. im just defending in case of a price increase due to more production cost.. im just saying if it goes up a little.. then it will still be a great camera that will be unmatched! The more people can afford it the better.. because i dont know about you.. but im getting sick of these over priced studio films!!! I want there to be a indi revolution in theaters!

PS.. i just reread my previous post and i used a word wrong.. I said INFLATE..
which i guess can sound like price gouging:/ like i said.. im talking about in the event that production cost go over a pinch

Last i heard they had a few on set.. Not sure if they have already used them or not...
I think it was just for green screen work. but im not sure!

This whole "RED REVOLUTION" talk has been one of the craziest nonsense on this site. Do you really think that Jim is doing this because all of us are his buddies and he wants to give us a good deal?? That is just naive to think that way. Jim is a bussiness man and he is here to make money. i am sure when this project started JIM carfully went through what to set the price point at to best gain a good market share and make the biggest profit. A car can be sold for $100,000 but if you only sell one of them you would have been better to sell for less and mass produce. I respect Jim a bunch and am happy that he is bringing out this product that will stick it to sony and the rest of them but don't kid yourself Jim is in this to make himself and the rest of the RED team a lot of money. Just because people are happy is not at all the reason for the price it is only a bonus.

There are genuine "revolutions" out there, some animals, such as bees and ants, selflessly cooperate for the common good without centralized control, and there are human endeavors that follow that model; sharing knowledge on the internet without payment for example.

I've thrilled over the prospect of owning a Red camera, but I don't think it's a product of altruism. Red saw a hole in the market at a time when the technology allowed it to be filled. Good for them; good for us.

I do think they are probably pretty nice guys. Despite the old saying to the contrary, nice guys don't finish last; they finish first or near the top.

I really don't think making money is Jims primary goal with the RED project. I'm sure the project has been structured to be profitable, but I think the primary goal is to get the best digital cinema camera in the word built. Its good to be the best.
